Description Current Version: 2.0.1
It would be good if you linked back here if you use this in anything or repost it somewhere, so people can find the source. Feel free to bring up any troubles you might have with this here and I'll likely be able to help you fix it.

Downloads have been moved below because DA no longer allows the uploading of archives containing executable files.

About Version 2.0.1 (Shimeji-ee)(You seriously need to read this stuff before getting the new one.)

EE stands for "English Enhanced". To find out more about this, you should read this blog: [link]

There's a slight problem with Envy though. With Shimeji-ee, you can put different Shimeji image sets under a single directory and load them all at once or pick which ones to load of the bunch. However, they all use the same configuration files. This is the problem with Envy because I edited the config files to suit his unique actions, because he doesn't work like the original Shimeji. He required a few edits to existing actions and for new ones to be added. Because of this, Envy should not be placed in another Shimeji-ee's image directory, and another Shimeji should not be placed in the EE-Envy's directory. Keep this one isolated.

New added actions: TongueOut, ShowRedStone, PaintGraffiti, ActSmug, Think, SitAndWhistle, and Spark. "SitAndSpinHead" is now "SitAndNodOff".

I included ReadMe's in the archive files to explain most of the technical stuff with these. If I included it here, the description would be loooong(er). So if you want to know how to install and use this, you can read that or look up other shimeji.

DownloadsThese downloads lead to a 3-pack which contains the original V1.0.0 Shimeji (if you prefer it) and the new V2.0.1 Shimeji-ee in both the Calm and Mischief variations. If you only want one or two versions, just delete the folder of the unwanted one after you extract them.

.RAR archive of the 3-Pack: [link]
.ZIP version of the 3-Pack: [link]

Tips and FixesIf you use the original 1.0.0 from the .Zip version, it will not work properly unless you rename two files, due to how .Zip compression works. Go to the "conf" folder. Inside are two .xml files. They will have screwed up names. To make Envy work, you need to copy/paste the original Japanese names back into the file name.

One file is 42 kb. Rename it to 動作
The other is about 10 kb. Rename that to 行動
You don't have to change anything about the Calm or Mischief ones, and this problem is not present if you extract these from the .Rar archive.

Works on Windows 7 - 32 and 64 bit (Run the .jar file for 64 bit systems)
* Compatible with Java 6 on 64-bit Win7
* Not compatible with Java 7 unless with a fix with Quiet: [link] Not compatible with Mac unless with this fix: [link]

Yes it is; it's also rather lightweight and won't take up a lot of memory.

Also, Windows should have its own .zip opening utility. Usually you just right click on zips and "extract all". That doesn't work on rars though, which is why you need a different program. So you should be set now. Of course, if you have any more troubles or roadblocks feel free to ask more questions.

....alright, either i have no idea how to open it, or he's invisable 0.o

WeepingMoth In reply to straykit [2011-06-05 02:18:36 +0000 UTC]

Welp, this could be a few things.

1) Did you extract the .rar version? If you opened the .zip version, you will need to rename a couple of files (see description). If you opened the .rar, you won't need to do this.

2) The file you need to double-click on in the Envy Shimeji folder is the one called "Shimeji" with the computer screen icon. It will be listed right after the ReadMe.

3) Sometimes they just don't pop up for a bit. I've found that when this happens, it's sometimes useful to minimize some windows you have open. Then he should fall to the screen. (Also keep in mind, once you get him working, if your shimeji ever seem to disappear, they might be on top of a window where you can't see them. Minimizing that window makes them fall.)

And remember to read the ReadMe if you want to know about controls and how to get rid of him once you get him working. Hopefully this helps you, since these are usually the fixes to this problem. Let me know how this goes.

it was there, i just couldn't see him...and i only know this because when i clicked my IM it started moving before flying away. and it was the . rar version...

WeepingMoth In reply to straykit [2011-06-05 02:35:20 +0000 UTC]

Ah, okay. So just to clarify, you can see him now, right? Or is he like, invisible for some reason?

And if you need to get your windows back, there's a guide for which commands to click on in the ReadMe as well.

WeepingMoth In reply to straykit [2011-06-05 03:16:53 +0000 UTC]

That's weird. Check and make sure there's an "img" folder. The last image listed should be "shime46" and there ought to be 53 pictures (including the icon) in that folder plus one .jar file. If it's not there or stuff is missing, try downloading it again and replacing the img folder.

If that doesn't work, I have another idea, but see if you can do this first.

Oh, okay, Great! Good I read this, because I was writing another reply of how-to-fix instructions. Apologies for giving you the run around for this, but I honestly never heard of them being randomly invisible before. So, good thing it's fixed up now.

You're very welcome! c:

hi hi!! this is soooo cool. I was wondering you would make a Lust one. There is a stunning lack of Lust shimejis on this site :3

WeepingMoth In reply to Sigma-From-KOR [2011-05-31 02:48:47 +0000 UTC]

I can't even find one.
I suppose I could make a Lust one, actually. Although you should understand that I'm a bit swamped with real-life stuff at the moment, plus shimeji take a while to make and test (at least they do when I make them *huge perfectionist*). Perhaps when I get the time to, I shall.

And thank you, by the way. :D

OMFG I LOVE YOU! This is the first shimeji that actually works on my laptop! Thank you! I had one on my old desk top, but ever since I got windows 7 I have failed at my attempts~ It's such a beautiful shimeji too!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WeepingMoth In reply to chiaki-chama [2011-04-12 19:29:42 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome then! (And thanks for the compliment. :3c )

There's something about Windows 7, I think. But the weird thing is, I haven't found a shimeji yet that doesn't work on Win7. Perhaps it's the shimeji you're using?

Another thing you can check out is the "conf" folder; if the two files in there don't have Japanese file names, the shimeji won't work at all.

Love it!

I was just about to say that Envy does in fact throw windows about, because he threw my half finished Mahjong game and I had no clue how to get it back (I hadn't read the instructions at this point) but I saw that that had been confirmed XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WeepingMoth In reply to xXOrchidChildXx [2011-03-27 06:24:59 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

Oh lol. I swear shimeji are somehow sentient. Seriously, it's like they never throw a window when you want them to (to check if it works or the pose looks okay, for example) but they will at the most inconvenient moment. Hopefully it didn't mess up your game, though. xD

xXOrchidChildXx In reply to WeepingMoth [2011-03-27 10:03:08 +0000 UTC]

No problem, my friend knows I'm a /huge/ Envy fangirl so she sent me the link. Now even my mum loves them, (she thinks it's cute, which I guess it is) and she's not an anime/manga person at all!

Nah, it didn't mess up my game too much, though it took me forever to get it back XD

WeepingMoth In reply to xXOrchidChildXx [2011-03-28 10:45:29 +0000 UTC]

Ha, that's awesome!

Hm. Perhaps I should have put a brief explanation of the commands in the description instead of a readme then. :I

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xXOrchidChildXx In reply to WeepingMoth [2011-03-28 18:54:46 +0000 UTC]

I am slowly converting her, maybe (just suggesting here) you could make one of L from Death Note (wouldn't that just be squee?!)

You don't have to of course, I know how much time and effort goes into such a thing.

Maybe, but it's just because I'm running windows 7, I'm sure on my laptop I'd be able to see the commands.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WeepingMoth In reply to xXOrchidChildXx [2011-03-29 04:02:44 +0000 UTC]

An L one would be pretty cute (it would be great if he duplicated by finding a tiny-L in a candy wrapper or something like that ). I wonder if one already exists though; I wouldn't want to end up making another version of something that's out there already. :<

They do take quite a bit of time to make, actually. That surprised me, since they are usually rather simple designs. Oddly, they do require a lot of editing.

I think being able to see the actual letters in the commands has something to do with language settings. They're supposed to be in Japanese but turn into boxes instead, like what happens on web browsers (although the "bai bai" text is still intact, oddly).

xXOrchidChildXx In reply to WeepingMoth [2011-03-29 04:08:46 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I should probably look through dA then, (not that my mum would know how to use it but I guess I could teach her) and YES! Omg that sounds sooo adorable! A little candy wrapper!

Hmm, yeah. I can imagine as much, seeing how long it takes me to draw even one half decent pictures.

Ah, well that would explain it XD

I am not entirely sure if it actually is the brotherhood style or not I just know I like the style and I prefer the manga/brotherhood style/s. ^^ I also cant really tell you because I haven't actually had a chance to run him more then a few seconds. because I have needed my entire screen w/o distractions so I hope to run him tomorrow if I get a chance

Hey, didn't you say these things aren't supposed to interact? Cause my little Envy dude keeps following Slenderman.

Like seriously following it around, climbing where it climbs, and stopping when it stops, etc.

They don't, it's all random. Pretty sure the whole following thing is coincidence, but it's sometimes funny nonetheless. On my PC, Envy and Hank Hill are BFFs who share beers, I guess.

Apparently Slenderman is popular among the other shimeji. A few hours ago, a friend on LJ said that their Miku kept following Slenderman.

This can only mean one thing. Envy and Miku are either /x/philes or Marble Hornets fans.
