It would be good if you linked back here if you use this in anything or repost it somewhere, so people can find the source. Feel free to bring up any troubles you might have with this here and I'll likely be able to help you fix it.

Downloads have been moved below because DA no longer allows the uploading of archives containing executable files.

About Version 2.0.1 (Shimeji-ee)(You seriously need to read this stuff before getting the new one.)

EE stands for "English Enhanced". To find out more about this, you should read this blog: [link]

There's a slight problem with Envy though. With Shimeji-ee, you can put different Shimeji image sets under a single directory and load them all at once or pick which ones to load of the bunch. However, they all use the same configuration files. This is the problem with Envy because I edited the config files to suit his unique actions, because he doesn't work like the original Shimeji. He required a few edits to existing actions and for new ones to be added. Because of this, Envy should not be placed in another Shimeji-ee's image directory, and another Shimeji should not be placed in the EE-Envy's directory. Keep this one isolated.

New added actions: TongueOut, ShowRedStone, PaintGraffiti, ActSmug, Think, SitAndWhistle, and Spark. "SitAndSpinHead" is now "SitAndNodOff".

I included ReadMe's in the archive files to explain most of the technical stuff with these. If I included it here, the description would be loooong(er). So if you want to know how to install and use this, you can read that or look up other shimeji.

DownloadsThese downloads lead to a 3-pack which contains the original V1.0.0 Shimeji (if you prefer it) and the new V2.0.1 Shimeji-ee in both the Calm and Mischief variations. If you only want one or two versions, just delete the folder of the unwanted one after you extract them.

.RAR archive of the 3-Pack: [link]
.ZIP version of the 3-Pack: [link]

Tips and FixesIf you use the original 1.0.0 from the .Zip version, it will not work properly unless you rename two files, due to how .Zip compression works. Go to the "conf" folder. Inside are two .xml files. They will have screwed up names. To make Envy work, you need to copy/paste the original Japanese names back into the file name.

One file is 42 kb. Rename it to 動作
The other is about 10 kb. Rename that to 行動
You don't have to change anything about the Calm or Mischief ones, and this problem is not present if you extract these from the .Rar archive.

Works on Windows 7 - 32 and 64 bit (Run the .jar file for 64 bit systems)
* Compatible with Java 6 on 64-bit Win7
* Not compatible with Java 7 unless with a fix with Quiet: [link] Not compatible with Mac unless with this fix: [link]

My computer was able to handle 20 on the screen before it started getting glitchy.

Ah, okay. At least it's not crashing or freezing.

However, my Shimeji is only doing a few things. Climbing, leaping onto windows, sitting and whistling...none of the window throwing, dangling feet over the start bar, and now crawling. Is there a way you can set how frequently they do certain things?

I've found that even the "mischievous" ones don't actually throw windows very often. It has something to do with the window's size too, I think. (The calm ones don't do it at all; which are you using?) It does things randomly and some of the frequency settings are the same for multiple actions. If he's not dangling his feet over the bar, it's probably just not turned up in his algorithm.

You can indeed edit the frequency. That requires editing the actual code (which of course, I don't mind you doing. Go nuts.) Of course, you could always just force him to do a behaviour by selecting something from the behaviors menu, but I imagine you probably want it to do stuff on its own.

Now, I'm not sure if you edit code a lot or what you use to do it, so I'm going to go with notepad instructions.
Open notepad (you might have to "run as administrator"), go to open a file, go to the shimeji's folder, then go to the "conf" folder. Open the "behaviors" file. Look for the specific behavior you want to increase the frequency on. You'll find a variable called frequency that you just change the number on. To make them do something more frequently, raise the number. If you want him to do something less, lower it. If you want to remove an action from his algorithm (but not the menu), set it to 0.

Example:

He'll then do the sparky thing more often.

You can also edit how long he does something by editing the behaviours in the "actions" file by editing the "Duration" variable. Do remember to keep every line indented as it was originally, too.

Of course, if you do mess it up and the shimeji becomes unusable, just re-download it and replace the file you edited. One of the best ways I've found to learn to code things is via trial-and-error.

(Also, since I don't know whether you code or program, sorry for any confusing programming jargon. )

Eh, I code and program a little bit. I have three bots. Thanks for the tip. I saved the original XML behaviors document somewhere else in case it messes up.

It's hard for me to download any other shimejis because the crappy little notebook doesn't like mediafire or megaupload. If you know of some shimejis that can be downloaded without those two, let me know.

(Oh, whoops. Mine's on mediafire, sorry if it caused any trouble for you.)

I only know of a couple specifically. You can download them directly from the DA page.

[link] (It's the same for the other two posted in the artist's comments)
Those are original Shimeji though, so you can't pick behaviours from a menu and changing their code might be more difficult.

The Shimejis group might have more like that.

I'm looking for Ed, Al, Roy, and all the Hetalia characters except Finland and South Italy. I love the Joltik Shimeji I found!

WeepingMoth In reply to NejiHyuga73 [2011-07-17 19:10:28 +0000 UTC]

(lolol, Joltik. It is made of d'aww.)

Oh hey, you just reminded me. There is a Roy one on DA that you can get without mediafire or megaupload. It's just the image folder though, I think, which you have to place in another EE directory.
[link]

I also know where you can find an Ed and Al together, but they're on Megaupload.
Here's the link to them anyway, if you can get Megaupload to work for you: [link] (Only Mischievous, and there's an N in there too for some reason).

There's a different Edward (without Al) that's on a different site you can try too: [link]

There's also somewhere on DA where you can get a bunch of Hetalia guys (and yet ANOTHER Edward). They're also image folders, like Roy, but they're all hosted on Mediafire.
So here's the link to them, once again, if you can get the site to work for you: [link]

Sorry if it doesn't though. D:

I don't think any of the shimejis I managed to get were ee's. By the way, Envy doesn't like Earthworm Jim. I was watching Let's Play Earthworm Jim and he threw it off the screen. :I

WeepingMoth In reply to NejiHyuga73 [2011-07-17 19:33:33 +0000 UTC]

Oh, that's an easy fix. Just copy the "img" folder from the shimeji you got, then paste it into an EE directory. Instant EE-version. It's completely safe to rename the img folders that contain the actual shimeji images too, so if you have more than one set in a directory things can be more organized. But if the shimeji you got has a vast number of poses (if it has files named shime11b to 11e) they won't be used by default, so you'll have to code them in. That's exactly why I had to custom-code Envy, in fact.

Oh god, I laughed at that. Shimeji-Envy has a history of being quite a jerk. Don't be surprised if he starts making faces at you immediately after throwing your stuff around, either. >:I

Well I'm getting angry because my parents have two perfectly good computers I can download stuff from and they aren't letting me use either one. The library is closed and I don't even know if you can download stuff from them. Every single shimeji or image set is hosted on mediafire or fucking megaupload and for some reason deviantArt doesn't display right on the notebook either. I'm so damn frustrated, and it takes a LOT to frustrate me!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WeepingMoth In reply to NejiHyuga73 [2011-07-17 20:08:07 +0000 UTC]

I can see where that would be very irritating. Ah, sorry for linking to all those mediafire/megaupload things too, that probably added to your frustration.

Could you try explaining to them why you want to use the computers? I mean, all you would have to do is download the stuff and transfer it to yours via flash drive and that shouldn't even take that long, so I don't see why they wouldn't let you use them. :/

He is already the mischievous version. In fact, he's not even a Shimeji-ee. :V

Which means it would probably be a good idea to do a calm one in case people don't want him dividing all over the place, lol.

Hold on a sec. I just created two EE versions of Envy. Check back in a sec and you should see the description updated. Once you get that mischievous one, try it out and see if it works (and be mindful of the description too, this EE-Envy doesn't work like normal Shimeji-EE guys).

Probably having trouble with the archive. Or is your computer a Mac? They won't work on Macs at all unfortunately. :/

If it's the archive you have trouble with, then there are a few ways you can get it open. I would recommend opening the .rar, as it doesn't require renaming anything. To open those you can use a bunch of different programs, but this one: [link] is especially helpful since all you have to do is double click the .rar to extract it. If it asks you if you want to overwrite the files, just click to "overwrite them all", as it doesn't mess anything up.

Let me know how that goes, or if your problem is completely different.
