Description Atlantic horseshoe crab, Limulus polyphemus. Not really a crab at all (or a crustacean), they are more closely related to mites, spiders, and scorpions.

An extraction of this animal’s blood is used by biomedical facilities to ensure the sterility of medical equipment. If you’ve ever had an injection or medical procedure done, you have the horseshoe crab to thank for the safety of the equipment involved.

Stunning painting, I'd imagine the angles on the shell are very difficult to get looking right, but you've made it look almost real

Thanks. The few times I tried drawing these creatures with pencil I could never get them to look right. Somehow it was easier with digital painting.
