Description The Theory of Relativity tells us that time is not absolute. What is correct for one person is not necessarily correct for someone at a different location with a different motion. Of course, we humans have a strange tendency...we decide that time is absolute, and that the people in different locations are not correct in their motions.

great picture

Question: does the man here in the buliding have a brother that is traveling at near speeds of light around the earth?

Great shot!

was this taken in the Detroit metropolitan airport?

you have captured some of the most beautiful colors of blue and green.

welder In reply to s-e-e-k [2005-12-03 16:00:57 +0000 UTC]

It was Denver, actually. The colors resulted from shifting the white balance to around 2500K on the RAW file.

This is an amazing picture, but I don't really get what your trying to say about "motions not being correct".

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

welder In reply to FurbyWithESP [2005-06-10 03:34:19 +0000 UTC]

Well, it has to do with Einstein's theory of relativity. Basically, there is no such thing as an absolutely correct measurement of time or distance, because a measurement always has to do with the motion of an observer. And you can never show that there is any object in the universe that is not in motion. I don't want to bore you if you're not wanting all of the physics behind it, but I'd be happy to go into more detail if you want to know...

Im a sucker for centred composition/uber-symmetrical images, but I'm coming to appreciate asymmetry--therefore, I'm loving this shot all over town. The colours are great, really suit the feel created by all the softly-reflective surfaces. Cool work.

strange how we as humans like symetry (spelling?) i suppose the human body is fairly symetrical and nature does thing in Fractals and repeating patterns...

so why not eh

Lovely shot

welder In reply to pdtnc [2005-05-25 04:19:02 +0000 UTC]

My theory is that we humans like symmetry because it makes us feel better to know that things in the universe can become patterend and organized (because the universe in the long run is moving in the direction of entropy and disorganization). Of course, the real clue is that when you look at natural symmetry it's almost always a little bit imperfect...

Thanks
