Description One of the revelations of quantum physics is that you can never know everything about a subatomic particle. Werner Heisenberg demonstrated that no matter what, there will always be an uncertainty in either the particle’s position, or in its momentum (for those unfamiliar with the term, momentum in physics is simply velocity multiplied by mass). The more precisely you determine one of the measurements, the more uncertainty there will be in the other. This is not because instruments for measuring aren’t good enough. Rather, it is a basic property of matter itself. Essentially, this means that we must see physics in terms of probability. There could be a 99.99999% chance of finding a particle in a certain location. But there’s that tiny chance mathematical chance that it could be on the other side of the universe.

u know what would be fun here.! in a full view a little flash animation of that image in motion... instead of just being a blur still...

Flash animation is hard to do in a print, unfortunately.

But not a bad idea. I'll keep it in the back of my mind for when it's more common to hang gallery pieces on digital screens and such things

A lot of my responses are late. Unfortunately I can't always get to the comments and they get buried. But I do make it a point to read each one

Fascinating! This series made me realize that, if it wasn't for the Math involved, I would find Physics just as interesting as Philosofy or Sociology.

Physics is immensely interesting. I know what you mean about the math...it scared me away initially too. But then again, the math lays a foundation, and once you can grasp the foundation, the way you start to understand how the theories develop is nothing short of amazing.

Still, there are lots of conceptual-based books that describe modern physics without going too heavily into math. And in the end, it's all about following a logical progression of thought, much like you have to in philosophy

You're right, but it seems I have a kind of mental block for Math that made my school life a living hell many often!

And, yes, modern Physics doesn't seem to have that much Math involved. I loved the few things related to it I studied at school and still plan to read some books about it, like Stephen Hawking's ones.

I used several in the series...this one was titled something like Principles of Quantum Mechanics (I don't have it in front of me right now...)

thats some deep deep reading.. especially for this spring season ... nice lighting.. and concept.. although quantum physics is an infinitely complex concept.
