Description
One of the revelations of quantum physics is that you can never know everything about a subatomic particle. Werner Heisenberg demonstrated that no matter what, there will always be an uncertainty in either the particle’s position, or in its momentum (for those unfamiliar with the term, momentum in physics is simply velocity multiplied by mass). The more precisely you determine one of the measurements, the more uncertainty there will be in the other. This is not because instruments for measuring aren’t good enough. Rather, it is a basic property of matter itself. Essentially, this means that we must see physics in terms of probability. There could be a 99.99999% chance of finding a particle in a certain location. But there’s that tiny chance mathematical chance that it could be on the other side of the universe.
