Description
last year the college installed this...programme - it opens whenever a student logs in and it's suppsoed to be full of things I could use...the only problem is I can't turn it off and I can't close or hide it, it's freaking annoying!

How infuriating! It sounds as bad as the school system was, but do you have that horrible RM security web censorship thing as well? Because that would be absolutely awful.

yes we do - can't access certain sites because they've been deemed 'bad'

I once, for a bet, looked up how to make nuclear bombs... We were doing coursework on euthanasia, and getting fed up with all the banned sites relating to our coursework which the non-boarders were able to use and we weren't, so to prove the system was a joke, I typed "nuclear bomb" or something similar into Google and came across some site that explained how they worked... What's more dangerous, nukes or reading up on euthanasia for Philosophy and Ethics coursework? I personally think that such censorship programs are OK for use on little kids, but at our age we're no longer innocents in need of shielding from the real world, and we're old enough and mature enough to be able to surf the web without an electronic nanny, especially a stupid electronic nanny that doesn't understand context...

That was more directed at my poxy school who had this big thing about treating me like I was made of glass just because I was a year younger than the rest of my class. People don't skip a year of school because they're stupid. Your college faculty sound like people who think they're "doing good" by idiot proofing everything. My school actually threatened to take down the Christmas tree, not because it might offend the non-Christians (Which is the kind of stupid OTT PC stuff I've heard of other schools doing) , but because someone might get a pine-needle in their eye... It was in a corner, nowhere near where anyone would walk, well unless they were actually trying to attack the Christmas tree or poke the column behind it (Big old private school, had neo-classical architecture and mosaics)...

my school worked on the principal that EVERYONE must be C of W (or C of E) - because there was morning service every damn morning (hated it - could have been doing my work but nooooooo)
and it was brand new but really crappy and over crowded

I went to a school that was a Church school, so I expected to get frequent Chapel services and the like, and I just put up with it. It wasn't my choice to go to a Church school, but once there I couldn't exactly complain at them for being heavily Christianity-based in their way of doing things, although I was not happy with the way they treated the non-Christians in the school.

We had a very quiet, nice head mistress, just some of the other teachers weren't very nice. Being Wiccan didn't get me liked, especially by certain teachers who thought it made me by definition evil.

I agree. I don't give a rat's tail about what religion someone is, unless they go OTT and fundamentalist. Fundamentalists of all stripes are definitely not good, whether Islamic terrorists, Christian evangelical fundamentalists out for an American theocracy, or holier-than-thou Pagans who've decided they've got the only right way of Paganism, and that the rest of the world is Wrong.

my motto is pretty much "live and let live"
you can live however you want. gay, straight, bi, black, white, oriental, christian, jewish, muslim, etc - that's fine, it really is. Just don't ask me to join in if I don't want to.

I don't ask proselytise because I don't like being proselytised to myself. Whoever said "do as you would be done by" (Jesus, I think) was onto a good point. Good motto.

well, the problem was stopping the hobbit animals from eating the dough that was in their hair (the merry bunnies are little devils for this - they'll eat practically anything that doesn't try to run away)

The problem with getting it our of Angely's hair was Angely fidgeting and complaining.

Go distract him, that will be good. If it stops him fidgeting and complaining, then I can get it out of his hair without hurting him. He should have put the lid on the cookie-o-matic, I told him to put the lid on the cookie-o-matic...
