what a great use of the top down view! it's so dinamyc!! most of top-down shots are very static but you managed to pull it off!

How on earth do you always manage to get so much beautiful detail into everything you draw? I'll never understand, but I'll always admire.

it looks insanely difficult to draw something from that kind of angle, but you've done a nice job in my opinion.

Did you take the figures out of some game (sceenshot)? The topmost figure, the knight with sword, stands much too undynamically. He does not appear as an experienced fighter, but as if he was totally overwhelmed by his opponent's action and did not know what to do. And if you want him to appear that way, it is still to passive: have him topple backwards more, show a later stage in his fall that is more visually interesting.
And the legs of the black central figure are too close together for his extreme arm movement. His feet need to be farther apart to balance him better and to give his action a visual foundation. His leg pose makes him appear incompetent instead of powerful.
Also, there is an imbalance to the whole composition: there is a "suction", some emptiness pulling from the outside of the image at the middle right border, behind the back of the black figure. He is visually being drawn back there, which counters his forward attacking movement, and he appears even more as if he will be falling on his back after swinging his arms back so powerfully. He needs to stand with an unmistakable forward movement of his whole body, if you want to counter the movement of the arms and the pulling from there being nothing behind him (though this pulling might not appear to Japanese viewers used to reading from right to left).

Just in case it explains some things: the soldiers really really are overwhelmed... And the black character is performing so kind of spinning dance using supernatural senses and balance. He precisely likes to surprise his foes with strange moves that does not make normal use of feet to support the arms. But still, it could have been more dynamic ^^

I understand. But the problem is the same that you have when you photograph real world action: it often looks awkward or plain wrong. Of course an superior fighter does not always stand in an impressive stance, caught in the middle of a movement, he may look like he is falling and powerless.
But this is not a photograph. That is why, in the beginning of my comment, I asked if this scene was rendered after a "real" scene from a game. Because, if an experienced artist creates this scene from his mind, then he will start with the composition, with the dynamic of the poses, with the movement of the visual forces (not the real life forces), and only after this has been done so that it creates a VISUALLY satisfying (not a realistic) whole, does he start to work out the beautiful detail.
Wen here has, in my opinion, made the mistake of getting caught up in the beautiful details, without laying down a stable visual foundation first. Please not how I repeat the word "visual". It is not about how people move in reality (or the virtual reality of a game), but how they LOOK. This is not documentary art, after all, trying to show us how the horse has all legs off the ground, but rather art meant to dazzle and overwhelm our emotions.
This artwork falls short of this goal, because the composition and the poses of the figures are, to my eyes, imperfect. Wen is what I would call a superior detailer and it has helped him overplay many of his artistic weaknesses, but at the level he has reached now, I believe that it would be in his own best interest to finally tackle those problems that he has so long avoided.

Yeah yeah, I understood your point before my comment, I just wanted to share the specifics of the game action that you asked if they were set on purpose. And by the way, these sketches are quite old, as they're already published in books for months. He does not put his work here in a strictly time-related order, so it's hard to see his evolutions

I'm so amazed right now that I don't really see how someone can be that good.
