This got crazier than the Earth boss, and this piece pretty much made me realize that I was going overboard with detail, in a bad way.And so one of this year's resolutions is to keep the details organized @__@

This is well-rendered, but I agree with you... a detail break on the eyes would be really good for your art. XD
Maybe having a variety of line sizes (big lines outlining important parts, such as the head and general shape of the body, for example), and omitting some detail in far-away or non-important places could help focus the viewer without losing your style and quality?

To tell you the truth, even with all those details the art itself remains very clear, so you're definitely not going overboard, yet ^^

if you try watch the eyes, flames seems like are burning. The color itself bright.

I wouldn't be so hard on yourself about becomming super detailed. The picture works like some bizarre buddist meditation mandala. If I had a 6 foot tall wall of this image I could stare and get lost in it for hours.

Regardless of whether or not you think you went overboard with detail, your overall control of style, lighting and form gives this piece a remarkable vibrancy even among similar pieces.

It's lovely! :3 Though I do agree, you maybe went a little overboard with the details. As it's kind of hard to make out the features of its design. Although, on the flip side, it's also kinda fun to look at it and find its features in those insane details

From what I can make out, it looks good. But you're right, you're getting lost in detail, so much so that the effect is lost.
My brain can't fathom that thing moving. I've seen you draw better, more realistic flames before... what happened?

The problem I'm having is that you did go overboard on the details. Insanely overboard. The figure is almost completely lost, I can barely tell what the form of the creature is. I guess that kind of works for something that is fire, but visually it's noisy and confusing.
The coloring is all the same value, to a fault. Fire is bright, of course, but fire can have different values of brightness based on where it may be emanating. Whenever I think of elementals, I think about them containing some sort of physical body [in the case of a fire elemental, beneath the flames.] I'd think of the exposed body parts of the elemental as some of the coolest parts of the creature, being darker in color creating contrast and more obvious form.
While I also rely heavily on linework in my pieces, I think things like flames on this creature should NOT have lines, if they were just painted color. No lines on the flames would cut down on the apparent details and confusion a lot. It's worth playing around with!
XD I like that you're trying to be self-critical, its a mark of someone WANTING to get better. I want to help out with that too!

if he were red/orange flame, and the fire shooting around were blue/white flame, this would be a lot more effective... If you had the right layer scheme in photoshop, you could maybe fix this with a few color replaces?

Impressive But indeed too much detail makes it hard to understand any kind of anatomical prescence in the picture. It took me a minute to locate its head and figure out its shape.

I see the reason for misgiving on the detail level but It fits with the character of fire.
All I can suggest is perhaps thicken some of the main outlines to make the primary forms stand out more and the rest will follow.
