The basic concept reminds me of Sora from dot hack, gotta say though, I like this design a lot better. ^_^

The weapon is known as a "Pata" or gauntlet sword/knife. Its from India.

yah but a jur has one blade while an original katar has 3 prongs, if you ask me the guy is holding a semi type jur since a jur has no plate or what so ever to cover its users hand, well its only my opinion.
