I've always, and i mean always, did i mention always? wanted to draw an Aztec warrior, or things in their mythology.When I finally got the chance, i was rather troubled, for one thing, I think we all know the key things that make them stand out from the rest of the culture, first and most of all the feather work.
So I know straight out that i need a good design of that, I'm more or less happy with it, but the thing that made me troubled was that, I was hoping to make him in my style, like, when someone see it, they dont see it as a historically correct replica, but something that obviously is aztec, but has a style to its own. I think the blade is something like that, but for his overall look, its pretty much no innovative ideas. @__@ just my 2 cents. Heres hoping i get more chances for such a theme.

Hmm, Well as far as " Your style" is concerned, the Skull plates on the hips are undoubedtly yours, and the sword was nicely handled, but I think what it's lacking in a "your art" sense, is vibrancy of the feathers.... The ones in his hair, and those on the long tassles of his shield are the only ones that stand out as Feathers, the rest are either highly muted by everything, else, or are just really small and don't stand out all that much, which is what I think of when I think YOU, and AZTEC both.
Normally, I'm just happy to see your work, however, this time your comment seemed to be asking for other peoples 2 cent's as well.... so I thought I would offer my personal thoughts on the matter. Either way, it's a great work, and I hope to see more soon!

Well, take it from a history-passionate mexican:
Those skulls do not look historically-accurate, so those are giving a lot of style.
And none of them bore the Sun in their chestplates, so once again, you managed to squeeze style while making it still look aztec.

I'm troubled by the way the head sits on his shoulders. Not sure if it's off center or maybe looks undersized. Also I love the Aztec look, an idea that you might use is to make the feathers piercings. I've seen fetish play involving using quills as piercings, quite decorative. It'll move towards that old school tribalism feel, and you'll ave the all important feathers.

I really think you succeeded on this one. It's not just the sword that is quite obviously your style, the shield and the trailing feathers hanging from it are what really sell it to me that this is YOUR art. Also the details and style of the jewelery and other gold decorations makes it stick out in my opinion.

Ep-ic-ly Awesome. I grew up in NM with a great deal of native American influence and this just has such a great feel to it. You rock as always but more so because of my love for the subject!

I drew an Aztec warrior once. To give him more of a fantasy feel, I drew him with a jaguar tail attached to his belt and a jaguar skull helmet. Its hard to describe, but he looked like he was 'one' with the animal. I might draw an eagle warrior, and maybe an "Elite Warrior" variant of the jaguar by using panther shin instead.

The design is amazing... but I'm afraid Quezcatli is a jumble of aztec words that might not mean what you want it to...
For instance Quez is an abreviation and popularization of Quetzal, which means "feather" or "feathered", and the suffix Catli doesn't exist, the closest one would be Calli which means "house"... so... Either his name means "Feathered House" (Quetzalcalli) or it means nothing and is only a mildly acceptable word that only SOUNDS aztec but isn't.
Though like I said before, the design and overall drawing is amazing

This is extraordinary and shows you did some good research. The only quibble is the macuahitl, the wooden club embedded with obsidian arrowheads to make it more like a sword. It typically had to be double-edged in order to have as much available for dealing damage. Obsidian being a perfect cutting edge (10 times sharper than the finest scalpel) it was also rather brittle. The feathered edge is consistent with the weapon a sacrificial victim would be given in a ritual where he would be fought to subduance and then suffer the heart sacrifice. The motifs for the armor and the shield are great touches and rather accurate for the symbology.

Amazing work, as per usual. When I think of Aztecs, I think ornamented skulls of gold, hawk-head helmets and feathers. Oh feathers. Next to Norse runes, feathers are the best accessories.

I think you're confused, the god you speak of is called Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent.
