I've always, and i mean always, did i mention always? wanted to draw an Aztec warrior, or things in their mythology.When I finally got the chance, i was rather troubled, for one thing, I think we all know the key things that make them stand out from the rest of the culture, first and most of all the feather work.
So I know straight out that i need a good design of that, I'm more or less happy with it, but the thing that made me troubled was that, I was hoping to make him in my style, like, when someone see it, they dont see it as a historically correct replica, but something that obviously is aztec, but has a style to its own. I think the blade is something like that, but for his overall look, its pretty much no innovative ideas. @__@ just my 2 cents. Heres hoping i get more chances for such a theme.

I don't think you missed putting in your own stylised touch to it--the tattoos definitely seem like a "you" thing, be they traditional or not.

Hmm, I don't know. If you want to not be an "aztec" design, you should try something "alien" like. Like, add insects designs to it. With what you did with that green beatle's mandibles turn into a weapon? I suggest you go to that design... Iunno, just a thought.

He looks pretty much Aztec, but yeah.. he must be a little bit tanned.. and maybe add some features like a fang through the nose, and some tattoos in the face..
But yeah.. its your style and thats a fact..

I think you definitely achieved that. It looks very Aztec right off the bat, but its obvious that it's your creative take on Aztec.

hey im mexican and im also into prehispanic culture.
your style looks good (i wish i could make something like that xD) just one little thing
the warriors used 1 inch thick cotton armors and the weapons and helm were made of wood (not metal)
the weapon looks like a "macahuitl" but looks like made of metal
the macahuitl was kind of a "wooden sword" with sharpened pieces of obsidian encrusted mostly on both sides.
There are some wicked tales about that weapon, like it was capable of cutting a man in 2 with only one strike, or chop a horse head (where battling against the spanish ppl).
but dont get me wrong, i like your style!

This is an absolutely fantastic piece of art work you've created. The details are truly outstanding, and that's an understatement! Though I not very appreciative of the "man nipple" detail (I didn't mean to look for them directly, they just...caught my eye...). To me, this work has a few things that aren't usually seen in everyday themes, but if you want to make it have more style, I suggest having big moving blocky stone warriors that have lit up green lines all over them...Unless that has already been used too...All in all, this is amazing and I hope it becomes a popular theme in art!

by the way, is that a shield with an eagle's tallons wrapped around it, or some kind of weapon that uses Eagle's tallons??? I'm a bit confused at what I'm seeing here

I love the design of the aztec outfit. only somehow, I don't know where it goes wrong but, the power he is supposed to show with the furious battle cry..doesn't come very strong, it doesn't show that furious power, it's just like he stands there acting (I mean when I watch this..it doesn't give me this feeling of " WAM he's furious" but more like "He..acts furious, its really still a bit flat.." )
Also I agree with some comment below here, about the hair.
