Description The planets of TRAPPIST-1, to scale. Red and orange colors symbolize uninhabitable and probably uninhabitable planets, green symbolizes potentially habitable planets, and blue denotes TRAPPIST-1 h, a frozen, cold world.

TRAPPIST-1 itself is on the coldest end of the main-sequence, among the least massive, smallest and least hot of all stars. That's why even h, the frozen world, is far closer to TRAPPIST-1 than even Mercury is to the Sun.

Based on recent climate simulations, the first planet, b, is probably too hot for even Venus-like clouds to form, c and d are probably Venus-like hothouse worlds, f and g are possibly ocean worlds, covered by water oceans hundreds of kilometres deep, and the fourth planet, e, is the most likely to be Earth-like, with both oceans and landmasses. The last planet, h, is a snowball, entirely frozen.

Well, who knows, it would take roughly 40 years to reach TRAPPIST-1... at the speed of light. We won't be able to see the planets up close for a long, long time, if ever.
