Description
This is the actual stamp that Shak wanted. Sharing that little piece of advice our parents gave us when we were younger that has stood us in good stead throughout our lives. Essentially, if someone calls you a name, so what?People say it isn't that easy, but they're lying. It is.
You will never bleed to death from someone calling you ugly. Trust me, I know.

Sticks and stones can break my bones, and words will break my heart.
What do you mean that wasn't right..?

Well, unless you throw a really heavy dictionary at them, or give them a giant papercut.
Either way, very true with being technical. Words can't hurt people unless they're really bad, but being called an insult won't kill you.

weskerian In reply to 00Rubychan00 [2010-11-28 03:25:02 +0000 UTC]
Yes, but even then that's more the paper that's doing the hurting, and less the words themselves. I suppose you could drown them in alphabetti spaghetti, but then that's the delicious tomato sauce that causes the eventual scrumptious demise.
A word won't hurt you more than a punch will. And what people don't seem to realise is that words only hurt when you're immature. Grow up a little and suddenly none of the nasty names and the drama means as much. It's nice having perspective.

Good point...
Yeah, I just remember people saying "Words hurt more" when in reality, some people need to grow up.

People who say "words hurt more" have never been beaten. Actions do speak louder than words, because people lie and they can be spiteful, which is why you should never listen to what anyone says until you trust them.

Most likely...
Yeah, so many good points (OTL) But, I usually trust pretty easily unfortunately, since we can't see each others actions via internet, so I just hope they aren't lying.

lol and yet emotional abuse(verbal) sticks around in people longer than physical and is proven to be more traumatizing. Its an odd fact but some people put so much importance in the thoughts of others when they should really be more concerned with what they think of themselves.
π: 1 β©: 1
weskerian In reply to Wild-Thang [2010-10-20 17:24:28 +0000 UTC]
Or at least about the thoughts of people who are important. People should worry more about the opinions of their real friends or their real loved ones, instead of caring what strangers think. These days, society is determined to wipe kids' asses for them. It breeds weakness and a lack of coping skills in our new generations.
Apparently, calling a fat kid fat is harmful to their self-esteem. But only because being "fat" is considered to be negative. Back in the olden days, if you were poor then you were thin and rich people could afford to gorge themselves. It's all about money.

Lol kind of like how parents want zero conflict in shows now-some get mad if there is an argument.
I don't agree with people who bully, but on the same side I don't think it does a kid good to make them think there are no bad people in the world.
Well I would say now being called fat is the same as being called unhealthy which in our society goes along with being sick. As for why it would hurt someone...truth hurts? No idea.
Thanks for the reply = D

Well, people need to have more respect for one another. At the same time, people need to be stronger and not put so much stock in the opinion of strangers. Being offended isn't the huge problem people make it out to be. Being discriminated against is.
I think deepening the divisions between groups of people just makes things worse. Take this whole Spirit Week thing. It just gives anti-homosexual groups a rallying point, somewhere to direct their attack. I'm completely tolerant of homosexuality and it really yanks my chain, because I'm heterosexual but apparently my sexuality doesn't get a week to celebrate like theirs does. People need to grow up and stop drawing stupid lines in the sand.

I agree. It's all really silly...black history month, white pride day, gay pride day.....can't we have a day celebrating humanity and thats it? Celebrating one specific group of people does just seem to bring them apart. Unity day would just make more sense to me.

weskerian In reply to Wild-Thang [2010-10-21 22:09:11 +0000 UTC]
Unity Day would be amazing. Unity Year might be better though. Respecting humanity as a whole should be less special and more just mundane. People shouldn't be able to pat themselves on the back for not being racist, they should just do it. But if things like Spirit Week are supposed to be celebrating sexualities, why not heterosexuality? 90% of the human race are heterosexual, after all.

Wild-Thang In reply to weskerian [2010-10-21 22:11:44 +0000 UTC]
Because hetero's are not special enough? Haha I have no idea. Its a rally against discrimination that is discriminating in its own. The world works in silly ways.

I think its great that such a homophobic site can make itself seem tolerant by adding a new colour to their interface. Considering that dA's mods will banhammer anyone for pictures of male genitalia, but they'll allow whole galleries of nothing but female bits. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm not going to be drawing any cock, but it's a double standard I detest.

I used to take everything very seriously myself. I was a bit of a crybaby when I was younger. Nowadays I'm pretty impervious to words. I get angry more than I get sad because of the disrespect, but I don't let it upset me. I know that I'm a person of worth and they have no right to judge me by whatever standards they hold. The people who matter to me are the people whose opinions I listen to, because they know me and they have the right to judge me. That's how I roll.
I don't see the point in letting the unworthy have power over me.
From what I can see, you've got no reason to listen to them. You seem like a nice girl.
