It is figurative and abstract at the same time, which is interesting and keeps the piece from feeling too flat. That being said, it is a very flat piece, contrary to the genuine natural of oils being a great conduit to allow for dimension and light. I'd suggest also trying to use the composition of your picture plane more adequately, as all the blank space doesn't feel so much isolated or sorrowful as it does feel arbitrary, same with the placing of the elements.

The only thing I didn't get to before posting my comment is the moon. I'm having more dificulty figring it out, actually. I know it doesn't have a set meaning, but that's why I enjoy telling my interpritation to you! I'm really unsure about the moon here, though. Maybe it's a reminder of what's above, or since he's not necessarily been there, a symbol of something being there, rather than a reminder. Something to give him light, if only a small amount. Either way, it's something beyond his reach, and something he could certainly strive for, even though it's further than it appears to be.

I love your work, I always have. I have to say, you've changed a lot in the time since I started watching you! And I've learned a lot from you paintings! Keep going, don't you DARE stop painting, and follow God's plans--however hidden they are! Stay encouraged, and remember that He LOVES you!

A man lost in a world he wasn't meant to stay in...

A man chasing the wind... underwater.

Have you heard Paul Alan's song To Bring You Back [link] ? I think you would really like this song. It's a beautiful story, and shows what God is willing to do for those who wait for him.

I love this one, I can see so much meaning in it (as your pieces always have!)

I can definitely see in the man the struggles he's endured, showed in a physical light. His attachment to the craggy rock, his skin and bones physique, the bonds surrounding him, and his own sort of craggy appearence.

There are familiar things around him, but from where he stands they wouldn't offer much comfort. An old decrepit claw machine, and in the distance a bridge that leads to an unknown destination... An old game and an uncertain road. So much like the life we all lead. One can amuse themselves, but that only lasts so long. And you can only drop so many coins into the slot before you start to run out. On the other hand, he could leave, but he doesn't know where this new road will take him. And the bridge itself is a long way off.

What so many people fail to see is that there are some bridges that can't be ignored, though once you've crossed them there's no going back. It's a part of life that many don't understand, and the rest of us seem to avoid.

The journey doesn't seem worth it. There are so many obstacles in the way, such as the huge jutting cliff that can be seen even from this distance, and unforgiving terrain. It'll be pretty slow going.

Not to mention, there's a mysterious watermark standing in the way...
(just kidding... heh...)

But there will also be so much beauty along the way. (How can anything compete with coming so close to a whale...? Dancing so gracefully, singing it's mystifying song...)

I like to see the tree from your previous painting too

From the way you paint and what you paint I have come to believe you are a Warrior Poet

A Warrior Poet is a concept that come from the pre migration Norse and was embraced by the very early Irish. We do not know how early the Irish spoke of Warrior Poet because the Irish did not write, but they are found in the earliest of the Norse sagas. Many of the sagas were written/read/sung by Warrior Poets.

There were bards who wrote and sang pretty songs and then there were Warrior Poets who went to battle and really live the life of a warrior and than serviced to write/sing about it.

Or in modern terms "Been there, done that, found some bit of wisdom and lived to tell/write/paint/sing/ or photograph it"

"Each of us brings to the table something unique and we each judge the world around us by what we bring to the table. Each day we do it all again and yet each day it is all unique."
