Description

There are three kinds of people in this world: people who like sci-fi, people who like fantasy, and people who like both. I’ve done a few GTS Profiles on mainly just giantesses in the sci-fi genre, but I’m going to talk about the kind you might find in the fantasy genre. What is a fantasy giantess? Does she have wear a holographic heads-up display, wear a full body reflective suit, and carry a laser shotgun? That, my friend, is a character in a sci-fi, not a fantasy. No, when I say “the fantasy” genre, I mean magic, dragons, olden times, words like “thee” and “thou” being thrown around in casual conversation. That kind of stuff.

And if we’re talking about fantasy, then a few different kinds of giantesses come to mind. First off, let’s start off by talking about why giants in the Fantasy genre make more sense than giants in the sci-fi genre. Because the sci-fi genre has to be realistic, so they need some kind of complicated explanation for why the girl got so big, using science terms like “quantum construction” and “overlapping trans-dimensional vortexes.” But in the Fantasy genre, there is one thing that can pretty much make anything happen and that is: Magic. that’s right. Magic. Magic makes the world go around in any fantasy story. It’s hard to imagine Dungeons and Dragons or World of Warcraft without some kind of magic system in place, right?

So with magic, anything is possible. And that means that out of the thousands of magical grimoires found in any fantasy world, there has to be a spell in one of them that can turn a woman into a giantess. Either that or a massive fire breathing dragon with breasts, which is pretty close but not quite. So there are actually a lot of giantesses in the Fantasy genre, in fact there are whole species of Giants, like Frost Giants and Fire Giants and Mountain Giants which are pretty much just Giants without any real elemental alignment.

But with those Giants, they aren’t really what we’re looking for. They’re smelly, and usually pretty dumb, and most often times really big guys with beards. And we don’t want that: we want adorable and/or beautiful women who just happen to be incredibly massive in stature. Luckily for us, there is a Giantess in the fantasy genre that fits these characteristics.

Typically in a fantasy setting, there is a monarchy in place. While the peasants live in wooden huts covered in dirt, the royalty live in massive, beautiful castles. They wear expensive clothing and jewelry while eating the best that the kingdom can offer. There is normally a King and a Queen, but often times there is just a Queen that rules over the land. There are two types of Queens: the benevolent kind and the evil kind. Both make good giantesses, but I don’t see a lot of instances where the Queen becomes the giantess.

There is, however, her daughter. The Princess is a different story. While the King and Queen are usually very stoic and courageous, the offspring of the Monarch are often times spoiled with whatever they ask for, whenever they want it. They are raised with the view that they are above everyone else and that one day they will inherit the kingdom, making them the ruler of these “lesser” human beings called peasants. The Princess often times despises her parents because they make her take lessons from tutors, learning things like swordplay and politics in order to foster her so that she grows up into a suitable dignitary.

A spoiled Princess is a potentially evil queen. But that doesn’t mean she won’t cause trouble in her adolescence. Think about it: they probably teach her a lot of magic. Probably some of the more arcane, taboo stuff that you can’t learn anywhere else in the Kingdom. She is at the top of the Class Structure, after all. So when she learns how to grow into a giant, and if the spell is simple enough, she may use it the next time she has a falling out with her mother or father over something stupid like “not tripping the servant girls” or “forcing two of the guards to fight to the death for her amusement.” The last thing a spoiled rotten princess wants to hear is “no” so it’ll pretty much light the fuse for her to show her parents who “really runs this kingdom.”

So that’s what leads her to cast a spell that turns herself into a 100 foot tall giantess. Unless she did it wrong and accidentally turned into a fire breathing dragon with breasts, which happens a lot more often than you’d think. But in her childish fit of rage, she’ll seek to show her power by practically destroy everything. First the castle. If modern society can barely defend against a giantess attack, then the medieval era probably isn’t much better off. She’s most likely going to playfully push down the tall stone towers first. They’re fun to watch fall over and smash on the ground anyway. And at least one of them contains the Court Wizard, so there goes the only person in the castle with knowledge of how to shrink her back down.

So all the towers are destroyed. Next, she’ll have to stomp the actual castle itself. But Princesses usually wear long, white dresses, so you can probably visualize her adorably pulling up her dress as she plants her stocking-clad feet through the roof of these stone structures. So the castle towers are knocked down, the caste itself is being stomped on, she’s probably kicked over the walls just for the fun of it. The knights are hacking at her feet with their swords which only pisses her off all the more. They start dragging out the parts to build catapults because they never really have them built ahead of time: that’s a pre-siege kind of activity that takes hours to plan and complete.

The caste is destroyed, and the Princess isn’t satisfied. Her next step is the village at the bottom of the hill from the castle. They obviously aren’t going to know what to do. Some of them might see the giant, giggling girl walking down the hill towards them with an evil look in her eye and think “well, now is a good time to leave. I better go get the donkey.” But there will of course be a bunch of guys who are like “I’m sure the king has this handled pretty well. I’ll just stay in my house and wait for him to arrive.” But he won’t, so a good bit of the populus are fleeing and the rest are waiting for their imminent doom as the Princess strolls into town and flattens it in no time at all. Of course, when she’s done with that, she won’t be satisfied. She’ll travel all over the Kingdom, stomping village after village until she gets bored.

After that, she can pretty much just travel up the mountains to the Nation of the Mountain Giants. They’ll see her, and their tiny brains will think “Girl is pretty, she wear nice clothes. She must be leader.” Or something like that. The Princess stays a princess, only this time she is in charge of a legion of a Giants who follow her every order. And thus a new legend is born.

Of course, the Princess isn’t always so malevolent. There have been kind Princess Giantesses in the past, though they are a bit harder to find. Perhaps she is an adopted child of the king and she was a normal sized baby, but when she grew up to be like 50 feet tall, the King realized she was actually of Giant Blood. But he’d still raise her to be a kind, benevolent leader. Though it’s probably tough to live in a castle that’s far too small for you and not accidentally knock over a wall every once in awhile. But I’m sure she’d manage, especially with her education in good posture and grace.

There is also the possibility that the Princess turned herself into a giantess during an emergency situation. They’re always getting captured by something, after all. Dragons, trolls, bandits, evil uncles who want to steal the throne are all examples of villains that not only would really want to kidnap an adorable little princess, but can easily do it especially if she happens to enjoy wandering around in the forest and singing to the birds as benevolent princesses often times do.

So, while being held up in the lair of whatever kidnapped her, she might use the spell she had learned so long ago to increase her size 10 fold, turning her into a walking tower of a human and probably destroying the mountain or derelict castle that she was being kept in. Then, it’s payback time. Dragons may seem pretty tough, but when they go from behind a fire breathing dragon to a bearded dragon, a kind that is significantly smaller than the other, then our new GTS is free to do whatever she feels, such as hold it in a tight grip and playfully flick it. Perhaps she’ll give it a good fling and send it flying over into the next continent or something. But when she returns to the castle, she’ll still be the lovable princess everyone enjoys.

In all of these examples, one thing remains true: the princess giantess is arguably the most often used and best portrayed type of giantess in the fantasy genre. They’ve got elegance, grace, and nice clothing. Pretty neat, huh?

*SIDE NOTE* This is my first digital drawing of a giantess. Took a pretty long time actually. Hope you like it. If you do digital work, do you have any tips on shading? It could help me. Other than that, I hope you enjoy.

The giant princess's power grab is gonna get awkward if she lives in a constitutional monarchy....

It would be awkward, but I'm pretty sure that she's declared a full out autocracy in her new reign. So that won't be an issue. And if anybody disagrees, then she'll have an issue with them.

One has to wonder where and why she adopted such a fascistic mindset...

I imagine that it's just from being born with so much power. Sometimes princesses are just evil because they're so spoiled. Either that or her mother was a dark queen and it runs in the family.

Thanks! How is it for a first digital piece, though? Think it could use some improvement? Think it's fine the way it is?

Alright, good to hear. I'll see what I can come up with for the next one. Though, to be honest, it will probably take about as long as this one. Like I said, digital paintings are much harder than regular pen and ink sketches.

Well there's the party giantess or the drunk one.

Party giantess...I didn't think of that one.

I'll consider it. Though the next one might be either the Celebrity or the Test Subject. We'll just see.
