Is this one of the originals or a rebuild? Nice angle of the plane!

This is a Replica, one of the Rebuilds made by Flugwerk. Thanks!

It is since it was build based on the original blueprints and procedures. Its practically a new 190. Only the engine is a new one since there are nearly now BMW-801 around so they used a Russian Ash-82.

So they didn't re-build the DB 601-4-4 engine? Interesting, that.

Pox and bother! Sry, I totally got the pictures wrong. I mixed it up with my shots of the FW 190, sorry. The 190 is a Replica, this one is a Bf-109 G-4, the Red 7. This one is a re-built version of the 109, with even the DB-engine. It´s powered by DB-605A. It was originally a Buchon, the spanish License built version and it was used in the filming for Battle of Britain. Originally it was to be built as a G-6, the most numerous version but they did change it to a G-4 since the G-4 doesn´t have the distinctive Bulges, that the G-6 and G-14 have. The G-10 and the G-12 (trainer based on the G-10) do not have those bulges, but a different cowling. Those bulges limit the frontal vision, so a G-4 is safer to operate than a G-6. Otherwise its an original, not like most bastardized 109´s abroad, especially most E (Emil) versions. The Ash-82 wouldn´t fit, as it is a radial egine.

One of the main problems of the rebuilt was to change the stading Merlin to the hanging DB-605. Its called that, basicall it means that the Merlins pistons stroke upward and the DB´s Pistons stroke downward. So the DB-60x series is practicall upside down from the Merlin. That feature made Messerschmitt able to built in Machine guns on the top and the Cannon into the propeller hub.

I´m sorry for the mixup, only thing I can say, I was tired when I wrote it.

Not to worry! I did wonder about the BMW engine, as I knew that was a radial. I'm sure swopping the setup from a vee to an inverted vee must have been quite difficult. Probably the Spanish engineers faced the same problem when they got their 109s and only Merlin engines!
