While I prefer simple character designs, I'm not sure near-total black is a good idea for a furry. Don't get me wrong, you pulled it off pretty nicely, but I think another color, I would assume white, would just make it easier.

Also, she looks like the kind of animal that has a tail

Wull she seems rather energenic.... perhaps outgoing? Maybe like, short-shorts an' one of thems shirts where it's like a cross between a tank top and a long sleeve (have no idea what those are called). Maybe throw on a few bracelets? Colors......hmmmm.... I don't want to saw blue or red because even though they complament each other, it's too much of a first ideaed.... I'd say just use basics blues, pinks, light purples or so. I'd make the shirty clothing s sort of like, forresty green (it will stand out on her fur and bring out the light in her eyes). ....sorry if it doesn't sound right... I'd have to know EVERY thing about her to come up with something < ) Great picture though!
