I am very fond of your style. It's very rugged and industrial... and that is how a steam locomotive should be portrayed. When it came down to it, even the elegant J class locomotives and there glamorous trains traveled through coal country, the dirtiest and grittiest industry of them all. Fantastic job on this piece.

Thank you! Yes, my heavy graphite smudgey style works well with the whole industrial feel, although its not quite intentional. Id like to work towards crisper detail and using color.
However drawing has become a hateful chore and I dont think im going to be making anything like that anytime soon. But cheers for the comment!

Its just the J 611 with Wardale modifications such as GPCS (though i didn't really draw it) a larger boiler and wider track gauge (about 5' 1.25'') and double lemprex exhaust. As far as inspiration goes, well...errmmm...i dunno, i just felt like drawin' that engine. The N&W 3 (A, J, Y6) have a special place in my heart that many engine designs do not have. Indian Railways WG, WP, YG, YP and various other classes have the same feeling.

This is so COOL!!! If the N&W had kept steam into the 1960s this would have been and it would have been black and blue tho I prefer the red. Is it 612? The only thing that it needs is a all weather cab.
