Description Who wants some Smash lore?! No one? Too bad, imma force it on you and you’re gonna learn to love it. And I’m gonna love it, because my old human Galeem designs sucked and I’m proud of my new angel boi.

Ever heard people talk about how Galeem resembles a seraph, the highest rank of angel? Well, guess what: Galeem doesn’t just look like an angel; that’s actually what he is. Or at least, that’s what he was in his early life. In the beginning, he was everything you’d expect from an angel. Wings and a halo, white robe, kindhearted and loyal to God. Then he left Heaven for whatever reason and... something happened to him.
Remember, AltLight is still a developing concept, and there’s some things I haven’t figured out yet. He was mutated, he was killed and resurrected, something bad happened. But whatever it was, once he escaped from it, he had changed. His clothes were different, he had more powers, and his wings had been replaced with 4 comb shaped blades that floated separate from his body. Using the perks of his newfound self, he defeated the villain that “corrupted” him and by befriending (and falling in love with) a girl who got caught up in the conflict, he gained a new home in the world of Shion, among a race known as the Luminians. He was seen as a hero and also acted as a Christian missionary of sorts, earning the nickname “Lord of Light”.
But of course, nothing relating to Smash Ultimate’s story mode is complete without... HIM. The Embodiment of Chaos and Darkness... Dharkon. Dharkon had the same intention for Shion that he has for every world: destruction and death. And Galeem was determined to save his home and loved ones. But Dharkon is one of the most powerful and dangerous villains in the omniverse, and desperate times call for desperate measures. Galeem’s idea of a desperate measure, understanding that Dharkon would keep terrorizing other universes after Shion, solemnly decided that he was going to try and end Dharkon once and for all, no matter the cost. And so, absorbing the life force of every living being on Shion, he destroyed Dharkon’s physical form and created a prison for his spirit. In the process, Galeem once again took a new form to go with his massive boost in power. His four blades now were greatly enlarged and his body was simply a giant orb of light. He had become a completely inhuman being that looked like a heavily abstracted seraph, hovering over the ruins of Shion in a sleep-like state for thousands of years until he was “awakened” by the sense that Dharkon would soon break free.

Ok, this description has already become way more of a giant info dump than I intended, so I’ll just say that Galeem regains this humanoid form after the AltLight equivalent of WOL and continue some other time.

Oh, and SovietUnionMeggy seems to think that mentioning a bunch of people in the description will boost his attention, imma randomly try it for myself hue hue

I have a suggestion for a different name. What about AlterGlow?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think I’l stick with the original name. Monochrome is definitely right to be concerned about getting associated with politics, but I predict that it won’t be a problem in this situation. AltLight is short for “Alternative World of Light,” and it should be obvious that this has nothing to do with the alt-light movement. If anyone is not just somehow unable to see that but is willing to go out of their way to stir trouble over it, then they’re the one who needs correction.

Ok. I'm just gonna be the one to name my own AU that.

Good idea. At first I misread yours as AfterGlow rather than AlterGlow (assuming that wasn’t what you meant); could that also work for you...? I mean, your Galeem goes rotten AFTER he had certain experiences, so... maybe?

Just some knucklehead who likes sharing my ideas with the world. I tried to think of people who also do art/stories with Smash bosses and therefore would probably care about this, and you were one of the only three with usernames I could remember lol.

Ooh... AltRight. I think. The link isn’t working for some reason. I swear I’ve heard of that before, but I didn’t think of it similar name until now. Well, I’ll stick with it for now and take action if it becomes a problem (but I feel like no one will really care tbh).

Yeah, I could have rearranged his wings so they looked more like a seraph, but that wasn’t exactly my intent with this design. I think he was a lesser angel anyway, considering some non-religious force managed to do things to him that I’m pretty sure a seraph could easily defend themselves from.

There’s plenty of works that involve religion (or at least obviously biblical elements) in their basic premises, such as Hazbin Hotel or Bayonetta, and they don’t get any backlash for it. I think my religious references are less likely to upset anyone, since it’s never really a main focus. Although having multiple mentions of Christian beliefs in my web novel and then revealing this backstory for Galeem might come across as a bit suggestive? I’ll have to keep that in mind.

Still, I don’t really feel like the name will be an issue. If anyone gets to this after looking up Alt-light, they should understand that it’s something completely different (come on, does this look like it has anything to do with politics?). Many words and names have multiple uses, after all.

Yeah, I’m more flexible about it. Actually, my main reason for mentioning religion in my stories is because I like to do world building, and what’s one way to do that? When making a fanfic, explore factors of life and society that the source material doesn’t bring up but most likely does have in their world, such as (but not necessarily) religion. It can be as simple as one throwaway line about a character going to church. Here, Christianity has somewhat of an important role since Galeem used to be an angel (and I guess he still is but he’s strayed even further than how they appear in the Bible than Pit), but I wouldn’t call it part of the main premise.
