I continued to relentlessly chase and the rain never slackened! I was soaked, Yote was soaked, the going was quite treacherous and the light was beginning to dim. All I saw was the bobbing rump of a magnificent grullo tobiano that refused to be caught. He had allured us all morning before we gave chase, Danny and Dingo gave up long ago, allowing the younger pair to go after the wily horse. I had blocked him in, cornered him, ran him out into the open, ran him straight up hills, chased him down hill, from one mountain to the next. It didn‘t seem to matter, he was so elusive! At one point I swear I had him backed up to a rocky cliff face that went straight up, he simply turned and scaled it like a damn mountain goat! Leaving Yote and I with our jaws hung open in astonishment.

But now I was giving chase in a stand of ancient cedars, he weaved and bobbed through them like a professional pole bending horse! I could see the last light of the day through the trees, we were nearing the edge. Finally, maybe I would catch my first wild horse! We exploded out of the trees, I gripped my soggy rope in preparation for a toss over the horse‘s head as Yote heaved us to the top of a grassy hill. Just before I reached the top I heard the tobiano‘s hoof falls falter, as if he were doing an about face. Maybe he had run out of ground, perhaps it was a cliff! I pulled Yote up to slow him as we topped the hill. Then, from my left I saw a rope slither through the air and land on the horse‘s neck. I turned and there stood Larry on his gelding Monty, he had captured the elusive one, and it wasn‘t even raining anymore.

What a beautiful colt! He is so agile, like a gazelle he will make a great stock or reigning horse.
