Everyone kept glancing at the grey mare's leg. Everyone kept running their hands over the skin and the scar that was left behind. The grey mare felt nothing different except that she wanted to run. And run. And run faster. Snorting she shook her head as the girl that rode her left her stall after giving her a carrot. The mare shook her head up and down as she enjoyed the tasty treat. Carrots are one of her favourites. She wondered why she never saw the brown haired woman that had been her first jockey and then her trainer. She was usually around all the time. Now it was an old man that was soft spoken and she could tell he worried a lot when he watched the horses run. Something had scared him but she didn't know what. Shaking her head so that her forelock wasn't in front of her eyes she bent her head down and nibbled on the fluff of London's ears. The mastiff sighed and rolled over onto his belly. It didn't take long for the giant black beast to start snoring as Tap groomed him. People looked over the stall door in amazement when they heard the strange snoring noise.

Phoebe and William had worked carefully with Tap to make sure she didn't freak out in the gate and hurt herself again. The mare was quite happy to be back to work and not on stall rest. Conditioning her for Dubai had been easy for the most part. There were some days where she just didn't want to stop running. She would prance in place and act like she had hardly even been exercised. She would toss her head and chomp on the bit, every bit ready to run and ready to race like the champion she is. Often Phoebe would try to work with Alex and Sin Cyr. But this morning she didn't see the big chestnut colt on the track. After her workout with Tap, Phoebe walked Tap around for awhile and then settled her back in her stall. The mare snorted happily and immediately curled up with London for a nap. Phoebe then wandered down the isles to find Alex and see Sin. They had an interest in the colt after all since their stallion was the sire. Phoebe saw Sin in his stall looking rather droopy. But she still hadn't seen Alex. Phoebe busied herself helping Will clean tack and settle out their schedule for the next coming days. Butler was not brought to Dubai in the end as the stallion had never travelled by plane before and they decided it might be too upsetting of an ordeal before a big race like this. They had decided to leave the black stud in North America until they had time to make sure he was better suited to plane travel. Tap on the other hand was an easy traveller. The mare had travelled all over the world to race. In fact, she seemed to enjoy plane rides for some reason.

Reporters were soon hanging around the barns, trying to get the scopes on the horses in the big races. A lot of people were wondering how the big grey mare would face her chestnut rival, Penny. Then there was the stallion she was supposed to face in the Pegasus, in which she had been pulled out with an injury. People were always wary of a horse that was coming back off an injury. Even if it was a light one. While Tap wasn't the long shot she was still expected to be somewhere in the middle of the pack. Gremlin was the heavy favourite. The grey stallion had all the fire that the crowd love to see as he half reared in the paddock and required an attendant to hold him.

Finally, Phoebe found Alex. "Hey, where were you I haven't seen you all day? Is Sin ok he looks bad....", Phoebe rushed out a sentence. "I've been catching up on sleep honestly. Sin seems to have caught a cold poor guy. Only ate half of his food. Looks like there will be no big race for us", Alex replied. "Awww darn now I don't have anyone to cheer on in the big race", Phoebe said. "Well I'll still be cheering you on. You better do well for me Sparky", he said affectionately. Phoebe blushed and nodded shyly. Alex laughed and glomped her into a big hug and kissed her forehead making her blush even more. "You know you look pretty when you blush. You should blush more often", he teased. Phoebe was quiet as she was about as red as she could be now. Alex was smirking with a twinkle of mischief in his eye as he held her close. Taking a slightly more serious tone he said "Be careful out there for me please, but you still have to kick butt". Phoebe nodded, still rather speechless.

A little while later, Phoebe was in the saddling paddock. Gremlin was putting on a spectacular show as the handlers had a hard time keeping the horse still. Phoebe had declined having a member of the track staff help her with Tap. She had William and that was all they needed. Tap's reins were looped over her neck and the mare followed behind Phoebe like a well trained dog. The mare stood still as she waited for Phoebe's command. Soon the bugle called for rider's up. Phoebe mounted and they were on their way to the track. Tap loaded calmly. Her incident during the Pegasus forgotten. Gremlin was the last loaded. As soon as he was in the bell clanged. Tap charged out with a smoother start than last time. She sailed beautifully over the turf as she galloped and settled in midpack. She was right where she needed to be. The grey mare felt fresh and full of run. Phoebe was pleased. "Alright girl lets go kick some butt this year eh? How about a win, shall we try that?", she said and gave Tap a bit more rein.
