Taken me a long time but finally worked up a shot of the underside of Shadow Star. Using graviton engines the R15-J generates and manipulates directed gravitational fields that allow it to manuever within an atmosphere almost as well as in space. It is surprisingly agile for a ship of its size as a result.

The other advantage of the graviton engine is it can be used to generate a 'mass reduction' effect allowing the ship to make use of larger landing strips without its significant weight damaging the runways and hamgar floors.

For all their advantages graviton engines draw massive amounts of power. Shadow Star is an old ship and one of the few that run a Tesseract Drive which is capable of generating huge quantities of power from zero point energy. T-Drives are rare and a relic from the 1st Imperium. Whilst people can repair and maintain them, the colonies lack the expertise to and resources to manufacture new ones.

Hence many T-Drive ship owners tend to be looking over their shoulders and sleeping with one eye open...
