A future evolution of Canis lupus domesticus, the blepsloffle is adapted to hunting burrowing mammals and birds, its massive foreclaws capable of rapidly excavating underground tunnels and burrows as well as defending itself from attackers.Β Despite its feral nature, it still possesses several of its domesticated ancestors' traits, such as a pug nose, floppy ears, an up-turned tail, and a fondness for certain primates.Β They still have a canine's acute sense of hearing, but domestication encouraged the later development of improved dichromatic vision compared to the domestic dog's monochromatic vision.Β In return, their sense of smell has been reduced, but this is compensated for by an improved sense of taste.Β This latter appears to have come about as, thanks to the shortness of their ancestors' muzzles, the tongues were often larger than can be comfortably held in the mouth.Β Even in the blepsloffle, the tongue can only be pulled all the way into the mouth with some effort.
