Someone asked me for a step-by-step of how I took my Madoka fanart form a line drawing to a painting. This pretty much explains the process. If anything isn't clear or anyone has any questions feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer them for you.

I tried using Paint Tool Sai for a little while. It seems like a decent enough program, but there was too much cluster on the screen for me. I dunno. I prefer a cleaner look overall like what Photoshop or Manga Studio provide.

You can get Manga Studio on Amazon for twenty something bucks, but yeah, Photoshop is expensive as hell.

Well all of the fundamentals are there. I think you just need to practice designing your shadow shapes more. I always notice that because it's something I was horrible about for soooo long and people always pointed it out, so now it's the first thing I try to get right in my pieces.

yeah I need to practice in those, I know that too! The problem is I dunno XD
so I'm just doing a lot of pieces and watching some videos, join.me some good artists and such..
