aaaaaaaa this is so amazing aaaaaaaaa
I'm just...whoa. I remember seeing WTC mentioned somewhere in PMD and being all, pfft, these guys, I bet they're not so cool, and didn't even look into it because I happen to be a loser. But then I was reading an M5 mission and one of them linked back to you, and so I followed out of curiosity, and whoa, glad I did.
First, the obvious. Your art is incredible. Besides being just good, just technically good, with your colouring and proportions and things. The way you sequence the art, the panels and movement, it works seamlessly and beautifully, like everything's in motion--plus, I like that you put attacks in game-style boxes on principle. However, it's also just like good because you've made it so yours, you know? I've seen a lot of stylized art and frequently it sacrifices the original character design entirely so you can only vaguely recognize what the heck is being portrayed, but yours does not do that at all. Even though Nikki has eyes, you can tell just from looking that they're not just there for decoration or whatever. They are there for the purpose of expression, and you express the hell out of them with awesome flair. Which brings me to my next point--auuugghhh the facial expressions they're killing me. I mean, they're just perfect. Not good, or great, or awesome, they are simply perfect.
Exact facial expressions--not the wishy washy whatever type where one is just expression a vague emotion rather than a specific, definable feeling or idea--can suck to do, but you just get them so much. It's like, here is what the character is saying, and here is his face telling you again just in case you somehow missed it. And oh my god they're so funny. I just love looking at Tommy's expression, they're just...XD Like the 'AAAAAA' one on this page, and there was one on the first page I think where Nicki slams into him and Vince while trying to get out of the house, and I just killed myself simply by glancing at it. I really love comics where the faces say more than the speech bubbles do, and you have that down like it's nobody's business, and that is not merely admirable, it's incredible. And behold, another well-timed segue! The dialogue is so real! And again, your sense of humor makes me think you're good people, because the dialogue also kills me. The best thing about it is that you don't appear to go out of your way to make 'jokes' as it were--that is, none of what is said, even the funny stuff, feels like it's injected into the characters instead of flowing out organically. It sounds like the stuff a real person (pokemon? sentient creature?) would say in these situations, and are funny because they're true, but also because your comic timing is something to behold. Like here, the 'it's working' *holycowhe'spissed sorbet* 'maybe too well' 'OK, let's go!!!' cracked me up, and I don't know why, but it just really really worked and there are like fifty other examples but I will not bore you with them because I'm sure you already know.
And lastly, the characters. Whaaaat. There are 4 pages in this comic so far, I have never read any of your other stuff, but I feel like I know them, I freaking love them, and I really really want to know more about them. Between the comic parts, the poignant bits--in reference specifically to Tommy saying his goodbyes and Nikki telling Vince to get his head right--fit in with spectacular ease, and just made me melt all of a sudden. I do not know how you paced these pages so well that you could have a sad flashback on like the second page without it seeming quick, but you set up the situations and the characters so perfectly it's like it was only natural for it to happen and I really wanted to hug someone afterwards T_T Your skill is incredible, really. I man...augh, just so good! There is nothing not to love!
