Description
From the beginning Emboar's design was just a huge disappointment to me :C. I really think they should have made it quad, and NOT part fighting :/. Anyways, I complained in the artistic way by drawing thisIt's for the alternative formes contest, where we had to design a forme for a pokemon. This is a ground forme, and it's achieved by Emboar holding the Spiky Boulder (which you see there on his tail). It can be used as a weapon for bashing opponents or tough patches or earth/rock. This means it can dig in any kind of ground, no matter how hard (except for something ridiculous like steel
Yes, the rock can be set on fire. Emboar's supposed to set his fists on fire with his beard so I continued that idea only with "mane" and "rock" instead XD.
In my opinion, this should have been his real design xD.

I see this as more of a middle stage evolution, but it still looks awesome (And I actually really love Emboar's official design tbh)

Thanks . Yeah it could kind of work as a middle stage. Pignite is pretty ugly/weirdly designed too.

I got use to Emboar and really started to like it, but I never could get used to Pignite, this does look much better however

Thank you. I'm used to the design now, too. I just HATE that it's yet another fighting type. Here's to hoping for a pure fire type for the next generation!

And then it's killed by Samurott too easily where Fire/Fighting lets it take hits much easier from lack of dual weaknesses.

All the more reason to keep the starters pure. I still don't see why Samurott didn't get the fighting instead of Emboar :/

Pure type starters shouldn't really happen either, as it ruins the potential for some starters. It's the very reason why Emboar is the best offensively from it's Fighting type. Basically, Emboar is the best, Samurott is in the middle, where everyone's beloved Serperior is probably the worst I've ever seen. Access to so many boosting moves but no attack moves to take advantage of them with.
Besides, name me on type when paired with Fire that neutrals the damage to Rock and NOT give it a double weakness? The answer? Fighting. Clearly Game Freak doesn't want Fire type starters to be useless like Charizard and Typhlosion are: Because both are weak to Stealth Rock.

I don't play competitively, so I'm not that worried about whatever uselessness they might be trying to prevent . Besides, if anyone should be getting a helping hand, shouldn't it be the grass starters? Type-wise they could sure use it. I'm tired of my starter always being weak to the region's bird pokemon (which are in like 70% the routes >__<), though I guess it doesn't help that fighting is by far my least favorite type. I also find it a bit unfair that they undid empoleon's grass and electric weakness, while it seems that they gave the fire types more weaknesses to worry about.

No matter how hard you try you can't really do such a thing. Grass as a type is already very weak anyways, but even then, I honestly see the Starter choice as choosing a difficulty. Fire is usually Easy, Water is usually Normal, and Grass is usually Hard. That's how I always saw it and how it's worked with me before with R/S, since Fire types had an advantage against Steven Stone, Water types had neutral, where Grass types had a disadvantage against them. Fighting does far more than you'd think though, since it gets rid of said Steel types that trouble Grass types. Fire does even more given the fact that more Steel types are weak to Fire than they are to Fighting or Ground.
I can BARELY use Charizard and Typhlosion as much as I can Blaziken, Infernape, or Emboar, since neither of those two have any kind of defense against Rock types. Blaziken, Infernape, and Emboar's Fighting type not only neutrals out the damage from such moves, but also gives Fighting type moves to use against said Rock types. Did I mention the most #1 used move in 4th Gen OU is Stealth Rock which deals damage based on Resistance or Weakness to Rock type moves?

Funny you should say that, because I always thought it was the reverse. (Then again, I'm judging difficulty by how hard it is for the first two gym leaders, since that's when you're the most limited pokemon-wise.) Fire was the most challenging because most of the games started with a rock type gym leader, but that's where the fun was. I recently played through my Diamond game with turtwig and I found the beginning was ridiculously easy, especially considering it was a Nuzlocke playthrough. I know they're probably doing it so people can just race through the game on just their starter, but it's just not as fun when they make it so much easier.
I don't know how it works in competitive battling, but as far as just playing the game through the story I don't see why it makes that much of a difference whether the fire starter is suited to take rock type attacks . They introduced so many fighting types this gen as it is.
Outclassed or not, it's kind of funny to think that charizard has the advantage over the other fire starters since they're weak to his flying .

I think blaziken didn't work at all, but I thought it was ok for infernape. I didn't like that it was redundant, but it was forgivable because it fit. This one, however, just saddens me to no end . Still hoping for a pure fire type for the next gen.

I think what ruined Emboar a bit was his face. It looked more mole-like than pig-like to me XD

Tepig does have a ball on his tail, though, and one could assume that with evolution the ball would get fiercer (hence the spikes).

I was disappointed about his two-leggedness too, but now that I think about it, if they made Emboar stand on four legs he might have been too similar to Terrakion.
And I love Terrakion and his bros so I'm content having a bipedal, fire-fighting, based-on-a-Journey-to-the-West-character Pokemon again.
