Today, June 6th, is the 78th Anniversary of the Landings on the five Normandy beaches of Omaha, Utah, Gold, Sword, and Juno Beach

D-Day is, with no doubt, the largest amphibious assault in history, and was the key mark of the liberation of Western Europe

The landings consisted of mostly British, American, and Canadian soldiers, with other soldiers from the Free France, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Greece, Australia, and New Zealand

D-Day was pretty much an Allied success, despite the fact that their objectives weren't complete on the landing day (only Juno and Gold were linked on the landing day)

D-Day, more specifically Operation "OVERLORD" as a whole, is an important event in history as it helped shift the tide of the war in Western Europe, alongside over events such as Operation "DRAGOON" and Operation "MARKET GARDEN"
