Description As anyone who's been around my gallery for any length of time can tell you, I am in love with the Ocarina of Time. So, in honor of the 3DS release, (ignoring the fact that I don't have a 3DS) I am (maybe) going to draw a random OoT scene everyday up to its American release date, the 19th.

So here we have... my first "major" accomplishment in OoT the first time I played. I was relatively new to video games at the time, the core of my experience being Pokemon, Super Smash Bros, and Kirby 64, the latter two being basically side-scrollers. My hand-eye-control stick coordination wasn't all there in terms of moving through a full on 3D environment, and I actually had a hard time getting across the bridges to Fado. Lame? Yes. But now it's a picture. Yayyyy.

You can ignore the background, the color, and the perspective. I know they're all.... questionable. And given this "drawing a day" scenario, you can expect a lot of rush work.

weeeeeeeeeeeeee

EDIT: Somehow forgot Navi and the glowy-mabobs, so I painted them in.

Every time I tried to do that when I was younger, I fell off the bridge. I have no idea why it was so hard for me XD

Oh my, I just stumbled upon this little series of yours---what a fantastic idea!

Heh, and I totally hear you on the coordination thing. XD Oh my gosh, I abuse the first-person view and Z button so much when I try to walk on those stupid bridges....

Fado and Link look great here.... and I love the view of the village!

I'm gonna go love the rest of this series now.... sorry in advance for spamming you!

Personally, I think that you did a fine job, the angle you used made the Kokiri Forest look larger, which was something I believe it needed, the village of the forest children could have been much larger in my opinion, but given the tech restrictions of the time, I suppose they did the best they could.

Fado..Squee. She's my favorite character in the franchise.

I had a hard time getting across the bridge, and I played the game for the first time last year. Tricky bridge..

I had the exact same situation when I started playing for the first time (on my cousin's account.) For some reason, if I loaded his Adult!Link file in the Goron city, I could walk across the rope... but for the life of me I couldn't cross the bridges in Kokiri. Fail!

wings33 In reply to KJanuary [2011-06-18 12:04:07 +0000 UTC]

Haha, that's funny. First time I went to Goron City, I went SO slowly to get across that rope, because I knew I'd probably fall otherwise. I can't remember if it took me more than one try but I remember it was a relief when I finally got to that thing in the middle.

A lovely piece of artwork! Ocarina of Time tied with Majora's Mask as my fave game of all time, and I just love Kokiri forest, so this is wonderful! The house in the background is particularly well done, and I ADORE the addition of the rupee just chillin' there. I must admit, that Kokiri chick always gave me the creeps, especially when you find her in the forest when you're grown up >.< Anyways, nice work! Faved!

wings33 In reply to HeadmistressMercedes [2011-06-15 10:21:26 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, I wasn't sure whether I should add the rupee, since it's gameplay-size rather than accurate-depiction-of-the-world-in-context-size, but I'm rather fond of it, so I thought, Why not.
And I agree with you, that Kokiri girl is definitely on the creepy side, a feeling I tried to communicate here: [link]
She was just a little too "heehee" about people turning into Stalfos...

Accept it. Some people are uptight about their Zelda lore and I don't see the problem with wanting to be so. or a tl;dr version: "u mad?"

twisted-phantom In reply to doomrater [2011-08-02 09:20:47 +0000 UTC]

Eh, I don't think it's worth it to be ~uptight~ when so much is left open for fans. I think it's pretty dickish to go on someone's art to be like "MY REASONING DOESN'T MATCH WITH YOUR CHOICE OF CHARACTER NAME," tbh, and especially phrased rudely. But whutevs, freedom of speech etc.

And nope, rarely mad when it comes to the interbutts.

doomrater In reply to twisted-phantom [2011-08-03 01:01:11 +0000 UTC]

I don't really see this one as decided by the original people so to claim that is the "official" name irks me. I am amazingly not as bothered by it as I appear but I do find annoyance.

Again, programmer's notes.

Nobody calls Barons of Hell in Doom the "Brusier Brothers" just because that's what romero and Carmack called em when they were making the game.

Pizza-niichan In reply to doomrater [2011-07-10 00:55:54 +0000 UTC]

It's more-or-less her only official name though. It makes sense too.

It's also not one found anywhere in the game or manual. Which is my point.

"Why do people say these things"?

So that people reading the author's notes know exactly who she's talking about as succinctly as possible. Take your chill pill.

I've seen that, and I don't accept that's her name because it never made it to the final cart. Though, that's as far as I can really argue. Dunno why it eats at me like it does...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

wings33 In reply to doomrater [2011-06-11 22:36:03 +0000 UTC]

I see. I personally take the developer's name as canon, even if they didn't find a reason to have her name mentioned in the final product, like in movies where bit characters whose names are never mentioned in the film are identified by name in the credits.
I was very surprised because you didn't react so violently 5 years ago, the last time I labelled her as such.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

doomrater In reply to wings33 [2011-06-12 02:52:24 +0000 UTC]

I fail to see how. Example: nobody calls the Barons of Hell "Bruiser Brothers".

Also, that was likely because I missed it. My viewpoint on this hasn't changed... I've merely found evidence since then to argue otherwise.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

wings33 In reply to doomrater [2011-06-12 09:36:53 +0000 UTC]

Well I don't know who the Barons of Hell are or how the title "Bruiser Brothers" relates to them, so I can't comment on that argument.

I don't think you missed it, because you told me you had always heard her name was Mira. It's just that you didn't express so much caps lock frustration over it.
Out of curiosity, if this were a piece of fanfiction in which she was an active character and I called her Fado so characters could address her in conversation using a name as opposed to "Blonde Kokiri Girl," would that offend you as much? Or is it just the use of the name in discussion?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

doomrater In reply to wings33 [2011-06-12 13:13:59 +0000 UTC]

Now that I think of it, I'm really not sure. Fanfiction that uses unofficial names is another matter entirely. It's the wiki entry for Fado in OOT that I find incorrect.

Romero and Carmack named most of the monsters that appeared in Doom before it was sent off to marketing guys. THey had the idea to make a tribute to their SMB3 clone on the PC (which they altered into an IP free sidescroller called Commander Keen) and well... the two enemies at the end of the first episode of Doom looked like just the guys to do it. Hence, they named them the Bruiser Brothers. Marketing and whoever came up with the final names thought that was a silly moniker and they were officially named the Barons of Hell. There's only a passing reference in obituaries, but that obituary is not part of the original game anyway... It's not exactly the same situation as what we see here though, just how I'd answer it. Nothing in manual, nothing in game, nothing in credits.
