Description
A little something inspired by a story I'm planning;

“This was a complete waste of our time.” Scowling, Itachi quickened his pace to keep up with the longer strides of his sensei, cursing his smaller form bitterly as he did.

“Tell me about it.” Uzumaki Kushina grumbled, making a face as she ran her fingers through her hair to try and remove clumps of dirt. “Helping a neighboring village with their harvest? Why didn’t they send Minato to do that? I mean, at least he likes plants!”

“He’d also know the proper use of gardening equipment doesn’t include trying to behead the client.” Itachi reminded the woman with a smirk, though inwardly he couldn’t help but feel annoyed that even when the man wasn’t there, Namikaze was still on his sensei’s mind.

“Yeah well, I doubt Minato’s catch any male clients staring at his ass while he toiled away on their crops.” Kushina said, narrowing her eyes at her pupil. “And so help me, if you tell him about this-!”

“I won’t.” Itachi promised at once, having no problems keeping any secrets from the blonde jonin. “And I thought you were going to talk to the Hokage about getting us some higher ranking missions?”

“I did.” Kushina sighed. “Three times. And all I got in return was some stinkin’ lecture about building character, working your way up and learning the value of teamwork. Which means these stupid D-class missions are all your fault.”

“Me?” Itachi repeated, obviously baffled. “How is it my fault?”

“You’re an Uchiha, that’s how.” Kushina pointed out, smirking at the boy. “You were born with you nose so high in the air that you risk drowning whenever it rains, and now that ape man you call a leader is making me suffer for it! I mean, couldn’t you at least pretend to have some empathy to get us some better missions before I die of boredom?” Itachi stared at the redhead for a moment, torn between feeling insulted and wanting to laugh at the image Kushina had put in his head of the esteemed leader of Konoha as a monkey.

“…You’re the only person in the entire village immature and disrespectful enough to call the Hokage an ape man, Kushina-sensei.” To this bold statement, Kushina responded by blowing her student a raspberry. The seven year old genin quickly ducked his head and hastened his pace so that he was in front of his instructor.

Heaven forbid anyone see an Uchiha laugh, after all…

“Seriously though, Itachi, you have got to loosen up a little!” Kushina continued with a sigh. “I mean, I know the Uchiha clan is all about discipline from the cradle to the grave, but if you don’t learn to have a little fun then you’re gonna just up and snap one of these days.”

“I’ll keep that in mind, Sensei.” Itachi said, bemused in spite of himself.

“Yeah, you better” Kushina said loftily. “I’ll have you know that when I was a genin-!” The rest of the woman’s statement was cut off by her sudden, sharp gasp, which had Itachi tensing before quickly wheeling around, kunai in hand, only to become very confused at the giddy, childlike glow lighting his sensei’s beautiful face.

“Kushina-sensei?” Itachi pressed, relaxing slightly. Beaming, the redhead pointed off into the distance.

“Look!” she said, looking ready to start jumping around in excitement. “Look! The leaves are starting to change!” And, not for the first time, Itachi was left utterly baffled by the oddity of Uzumaki Kushina.

“So?” He asked, unimpressed. Kushina glowered at him.

“So?” She repeated, turning to face her student with her hands on her hips. “So?! Don’t you realize what this means, brat?!”

“That winter’s only a few months off and I’m going to have to prepare for colder weather?” Itachi guessed, unable to fathom what his teacher was so excited about.

“No!” Kushina huffed. “Autumn! Autumn’s almost here!”

“…So?” Kushina shot the genin a deadpan look.

“You’re trying to make me hurt you right now, aren’t you?” She demanded suspiciously.

“It’s just leaves, sensei, I don’t see what you’re so excited about.” Itachi sighed as he pocketed his kunai.

“It’s not just leaves!” Kushina said with a stern frown. “It’s colors! That’s why autumn is my favorite season! It’s all so beautiful and colorful, and it always makes me feel so energized!”

“Spring’s colorful, too.” Itachi reminded his teacher with a smirk.

“Yeah, but spring is all green and boring.” Kushina insisted, crossing her arms. “Autumn has reds, and yellows and oranges. Besides, we never had much of an autumn back in Uzu, and it’s one of the first things I liked about Konoha.” Itachi still didn’t understand, but realized that pressing the subject any further would mean staying out well past dark, and while he enjoyed spending time with his sensei he was tired and sore right now, and longed for a bath.

“Whatever you say, sensei.” Itachi said, turning to continue their trek towards Konoha. Kushina ‘hmph’ed!’ before following, apparently still grudging the fact that her student didn’t share her love of fall.

“You’re an annoying, unimaginative little brat. You know that right?” Kushina told the boy, clearly pouting. Itachi rolled his eyes.

Sometimes his sensei was such a child…

XD Yep, this'll be the basis of my first Naruto fanfic, Weasel in a Whirlpool, which feature Uzumaki Kushina teaching a certain Uchiha genius the fine art of ninja-ing!

No I don't know where is came from, so stop giving me that look.

Anywho, This is my design for Kushina's outfit in the story, as well as Itachi's basic look (Or at least, wat I could remember of it while visiting family in Canada.) They're gonna have a rather... interesting student/teacher relationship, as you can probably tell from the clip I provided. I'm not sure if this part will actually be in my story, but it should give you an idea of what to expect.

Oh, and the linear art's in my scraps if anyone thinks they can do a better job at coloring, which they probably could.
