Oh man, looking back on the tank is rather cringe worthy - I drew it from memory, so of course that all the details are wrong and it's too small in proportion to the characters...

Amusingly though, even though this was drawn almost ten years ago, the scene hasn't changed too much - in fact here's a later (about four years later) drawing of both of them and the tank: Hostellerie de la Biche

Here the tank was still drawn from memory, but at this time I had a better understanding of how it functions mechanically, so while some details are subtly wrong and the proportions aren't exactly right, it's a much better facsimile of the real thing.

As you can see, some details have also evolved, so that the tank has now a cast turret rather than a riveted one and it's factory grey rather than camouflaged, her uniform is the old M.1888 blue with red pantaloons instead of the "bleu horizon" M.1902 one, etc.

Still, at this point not all the details were set in stone and the scene could change yet again. For example, the driver character was still subject to change, but here is the finalised concept drawn a year later: Shadowless Characters 4

I really enjoyed the story and illustrations, will you ever publish it as a proper book? - also I could all too easily imagine some English soldier seeing the hotel name and making a joke of it - "Oy Sarge, lookit this the hotel of the bitch!"
