Description

Continued from Mantle , Firstborn , Assassin: Night & Light , Deshret , and New Rules ...

This is the Deshret al-Fazil version. As I said under Firstborn Deshret's resemblance to Kain is supposed to be uncanny. It even saved his life. Or more specifically, it caused Lilit to save his life in spite of Deshret's father being one of her worst enemies. She carried the unconscious seventeen year-old boy from a burning building and left him near a camp of survivors - others who escaped the blaze. It helped that young Deshret had been trying to kill his villainous father and Lilit witnessed the attempt. His reasons were noble; he simply lacked the training and tools to follow through with it. So she left him with a gift: a remarkable sword forged from an ancient, almost supernatural metal, a weapon capable of killing many things that would otherwise be difficult if not near-impossible to kill. But there was a warning to go with it. Lilit slapped the boy until he began to wake up and told him...

"Be a good man, Deshret al-Fazil, or at the very least be an honorable man. Do not be like your father else I will find you, I will take back this sword, and kill you with it."

Her words stayed with Deshret even though he couldn't remember her specifically. It was like something heard in a dream. That's why he didn't recognize Lilit centuries later when he was hired to kill her in New York...

Β Behind-the-Scenes I'm really surprised by how right I was about the combination of shapes and textures needed for Kain and Deshret. I've been trying to create something like this on Genesis 3 for about two years now. The shaping values were getting more and more complicated because of what was missing. I will, however, try again the Kyle HD texture I'd been using previously just to see if I can keep that one for Deshret and Kimo 7's for Kain.

UPDATE: A few minor details were bothering me, so I fixed them.

The relationship between Deshret and Lilit is a lot of fun to write, especially after their New York encounter when she loses all memory of who and what she is and becomes "Layla." It's just funny to think that'd I'd originally written Deshret to be such a villainous bastard readers would be happy if he died. But then I reworked him completely, changed the dynamic between he and Layla and, bam! He's worthy of his own series now.

Very cool! And aptly titled. I wouldn't want to be on the other end of that stare.

Thank you very much.

Edit: I was going to tell you that the title took almost as long to come up with as the image did to render, with a whole lot of reading through Ancient Egyptian mythology and laws trying to find something appropriate, before I finally said, "Oh, f*** it! He's 'fierce-looking.' That'll do!" and went with it. But I was tired and went to bed after giving you only a quick "thanks."

So, sincerely: Thank you. I'm glad you like it. He's one of those original characters I always hope people will like.
