Description Continued from Beach Portraits: Layla , What is Best in Life , and Not Really Persian ...

A while ago my brother gave me an interesting idea for Layla. He was diagnosed with cancer when he was 14 and went through years of treatments. He had very relaxed, almost straight blonde hair before. It fell out due to chemotherapy and whatnot, but when he got better and his hair finally grew back it was black and curly - nothing like it had been. He said that happens to a lot of people who go through what he did. His idea for my immortal Layla was that a similar thing could happen to her after surviving something massively traumatic that forces her to regrow flesh and hair. Maybe it was mostly straight before like you see in Not Really Persian, but after it turned curly like you see here. Or vice versa. I like the idea. It's not going to happen often, but it's a small thing that could potentially help or hinder her or have no impact at all.

The only thing is: it would've happened to Ysabel, too, and even though Ysabel is only a fraction of Layla's age, the Mayan immortal has been massively and traumatically damaged far more often as part of her long, long ago ritual lifestyle. I never thought about that until just now. But while I don't see her hair changing like Layla's could, it's a good explanation for the differing textures I use for Ysabel.

In our world of creative thinking any explanation would work... and great image too!

True. I just like using science and history where possible. And thank you.
