Description Naruto Next Generation .5: The kids of the currently-adult Naruto characters. (This is my last one to complete the trio! I'm so happy!)

Umino Haruto was raised in as close to a perfect family as you could get when both of your parents were ninja. His mother Shizune remained the Hokage’s assistant until Tsunade retired and Naruto took over, at which point she was appointed to the Council and thus was always local. His father Iruka kept teaching at the Academy, only going on the occasional C- or B-rank mission when school was out. In fact, Iruka worked very hard to make sure his son was raised in the best possible environment.

Iruka never got over his parents’ deaths when he was a child, and the years following that were the worst he had ever known. It was for that reason that he was determined never to let Haruto (named shamelessly after Naruto, who was such an impact on both Iruka and Shizune’s lives) suffer the same fate. He spent every Sunday without fail with his family and constantly took Haruto out to train, camp, or just to the park. The two were best friends from the start.

Shizune was also a very doting mother. She took Haruto to work with her and he made friends with everyone in the Hokage’s building. Even Tsunade had a soft spot for the little tyke. However, as Haruto grew older, Shizune was slightly disappointed he didn’t have a stronger drive to advance through the shinobi ranks. She having graduated from the Academy at age nine, there were some high hopes placed on her son. She loved him no less when he made apparent that he was content advancing at a very average rate, although she was thrilled beyond belief when he showed an affinity for medical jutsu.

Haruto was well-liked by almost everyone he met. It was rare to find him without a smile on his face and some idea for a game up his sleeve. He was also unafraid to start conversations with random strangers and was skilled at small talk. This made him great for diplomatic or information-gathering missions, as he was never awkward or suspicious when talking to someone he was trying to get information out of.

While he didn’t inherit his father’s temper, he did inherit his mother’s tendency to freak out at small things. Or at least, what seemed like small things. He never cared if someone was a few minutes late to a meeting or if he couldn’t find his other shoe when in a rush to get out of the house, but Haruto was easily embarrassed. Whenever he did or said something that made him look foolish, he began to sputter and wave his hands quickly to get out of the situation. When he was younger and had a crush on his teammate Hatake Akemi, he farted once when they were on a mission together. His panicky reaction afterward was enough to make even the ultra-stoic girl laugh.

However, Haruto was restless. He was always fidgety as a child, and wanted to go everywhere and see everything. It wasn’t for lack of patience as much as a desire to move. As much as he loved his family and friends, he knew that there was no way he could remain in Konoha the rest of his life. When he was fifteen, instead of taking the jounin exam as he had planned, he left the village. He left a note on his kitchen table explaining to his parents that he wasn’t upset in any way, that he still loved them dearly, and that this was a well-planned, not spur-of-the-moment action, and left.

For two years he travelled. He made money doing odd jobs for farmers or shopkeepers, and was quite popular as many of the people he came across had no ninja skills and thus no chakra-infused abilities. He was marked as a rogue in Konoha documents, but because it was pretty obvious that he posed no threat to anyone, there were no searches or rewards for his capture. In fact, there wasn’t even a message sent out to any of the villages (except Suna, but that was just because Hokage Naruto wanted Gaara the Kazekage to make Haruto drop his parents a line if he ever came to the Sand Village). However, Haruto never entered one of the ninja villages. He went to many of the smaller towns near them, but never did he actually go in the ninja villages’ gates. He did send his parents a few letters, maybe half a dozen throughout his time away, but because he moved around so much he never got one back.

Just before his eighteenth birthday he came home. His parents found him taller, stronger, and wiser. But even more than that, having satisfied a hunger that had been gnawing at him for years, Haruto had greatly matured. He moved into an apartment in Konoha a few blocks away from his parents and took his job as a chunin back up. After a few months he took the jounin exam; when he failed, he took it again and passed it his second time around. However, when he was nineteen, he approached the Hokage and told him that there was no way he could stay in Konoha.

“I can’t quite explain what it is; it’s like, both of my parents have their stories here. Both of them have done so much in Konoha. And it’s not that I’m ashamed of them or anything of the sort. I just want to start over somewhere new; somewhere I can start my own path,” he explained.

Naruto mulled this over. A ninja wishing to relocate wasn’t particularly uncommon, just a hassle. And as ninja wishing to relocate generally didn’t have any ties to their present home, or had a very strong pull factor in another village, as in a marriage, it was often easy to have them totally cut ties with Konoha and integrate into their new village as a ninja under, say, Suna’s control. But Haruto still had friends and family in Konoha; if he were totally cut off, visits would be such a trouble.

Naruto eventually was able to place Haruto in the Konoha embassy in Kiri, the Mist Village. Aside from the icky political stuff he would now have to deal with (which Naruto didn’t envy of him at all, but which surprisingly Haruto didn’t mind too much) it was the best of both worlds: Konoha citizen status, foreign residence. Since his relocation, Haruto has worked hard to make his mark on Kiri on his own. He comes back to Konoha to visit and report to Naruto a few times per year, but he is very happy in his new home. He is now able to forge his own path.
