Description The idea behind this is that Shikamaru is being relocated to Suna and the night before he goes the Akimichis, Yamanakas, and Naras have a barbeque. However, to get some final Team Ten moments in there, the three kids slip away to stargaze for a while. And, yep, like I seem to keep doing lately, I put up a little story that goes over that in more detail on fanfiction . net, and I'll put the link at the bottom here. What can I say, I've been in a writing mood lately!

But behind both this picture and this story is the fact that all of my friends and I are leaving for college soon, some of them in just a few days. And it sucks. It really sucks. Me no likey growing up.

(Side note: ALthough I am personally a huge Shika fan, I've gotta say that Chouji turned out freaking attractive here. The heck? Oh well, he deserves more love. )

Well, anyway, constructive criticism is always appreciated, and you're made of awesome if you comment when you fave! Adios!

Curious: why is Shikamaru being transferred to Suna?

(ps: that sounds like it would be a ShikaTema situation )

Ok! I'll read it now! (the first few weeks of college are BORING!!)

p.s. I found out I ALMOST had a class with Laura- she has the same class as me but it's the hour before mine...

Aw, sorry it's boring. Are the subjects pretty interesting at least? Is there a poo-ton of homework or anything? Have you seen many kids from school?

The subjects are pretty boring (mosly because it's general ed) and no, there is almost no homework so far. Or at least, none that I've really had to do

There are a lot of kids from Lodi there. It's actually really odd seeing them mixed in with so many kids I don't know and knowing that it's college.

When do you leave for Davis? Are you excited/anxious/nervous?

witchofoz93 In reply to practicallyoblivious [2012-08-29 03:18:19 +0000 UTC]

Ooh, general ed. Not looking forward to those (when I take them...) Or at least I'm not a huge fan of history requirements and everything, but hopefully there'll be some interesting classes.

I leave on Sept. 23. Still almost a month to go... :/ And I'm pretty nervous, and a lot more excited now that i've gotten my official room assignment stuff. I'm on an all-girls floor on the third floor of a building with no elevators. I don't mind having to walk up multiple flights of stairs every time, but moving in and out won't be easy.

It's funny, last week I was all "Oh yeah, a month of summer left, this is awesome!", etc, but now I just want to start and get it over with. I'm bored. Except I'm now working at Ethan's house all this week (weeding and more painting and stuff) so maybe I'll be glad there's still so much time left.

I'm sure there are a few interesing classes. I know a few people are taking health (that could be interesting) and my friend Mia is taking art classes, those can't be too boring. Do you get to sign up for classes before or after you move in to campus? My bro signed up for his classes at UCSD but he's transferring so idk how it's different

Moving in will definatly suck without elevators, but at least you'll get a bit of exercise climbing the stairs! And an all-girls' floor sounds cool! Do you know if Natalie is in the same form as you?

Yeah, I think that if I had a long summer from June - September I'd be sooo bored. (though I'm sad my summer was only about a month long cause of school)
You're still working at Ethan's house? he's at Berkeley now isn't he?

(Sorry about the late reply... very hectic last few days)

I chose my classes when I went to orientation, which was about the middle of last month. Really glad I got that over with too; there were soooo many seminars and group discussions about picking classes that I was super stressed about it, but it wasn't too bad.

I don't know about Natalie. She's in Switzerland until almost when school starts, so she hasn't gotten back to me.

Yep, Ethan left for Berkeley. (Really enjoying it too.) But his dad wanted some stuff done so he asked me and Jazzi to do some weeding and painting and stuff. Very unglamourous and exhausting, but a job's a job.

Cool! I'm curious, did you have any transcript problems when registering? Cause at delta our registrations had holds put on them (the transcript thing)
You guys actually got group discussions and seminars about registering? I guess that's a benefit of going to deltam there weren't any (though it's also a major benefit being able to talk to other people about registration, I only had my siblings)

Haha, we talked about Natalie at our last meeting at Kumon. We asked if she was going to be coming back before college (no) and then Ms Hsieh told us she was being an Au Pair in Switzerland (then it led to a hilarious discussion about what an Au Pair was )

I guess a job is a job, but I don't envy you having to do that in the summer heat, at least it's starting to cool down

witchofoz93 In reply to practicallyoblivious [2012-09-04 01:32:58 +0000 UTC]

Nope, no transcript issues. And yeah, the seminars were very helpful. I had no clue what to do going in.

haha Oh, Kumon. Pretty sure Natalie's not an Au Pair. Is Kumon still... Kumon-y?

practicallyoblivious In reply to witchofoz93 [2012-09-04 04:39:01 +0000 UTC]

That's good, well not good that you didn't know what to take or go into, but it's good that they were helpful!

Kumon is Kumon. Ms Hsieh is trying to find us all positions that work with our strengths (it seems as if there is no right position for me, she wants Michael and Sarah at the New Concept table, I'm a slow grader, I don't think I'd be helpful with the little kids or the hard-to-deal-with kids, and I'd only be at the front desk when Stephanie's not there (plus that makes me nervous))
but yeah, now she wants us to recruit students and potential employees because we need more students and our current employees are going off to college soon (one is leaving until next summer, others are seniors going away to college next year)

witchofoz93 In reply to practicallyoblivious [2012-09-05 02:50:24 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I remember times she was really persistant about us recruiting new people. But can many more kids even fit in that building? Isn't it already pretty dang crowded?

Well, I know you'll find a position that's good for you! I always liked the little kids, just because they were so stinkin' adorable, but they were a handful.

practicallyoblivious In reply to witchofoz93 [2012-09-09 17:38:46 +0000 UTC]

It is VERY crowded, we've had trouble finding kids seats a few times, but the lack-of-kids thing I think is mostly because of summer and that many kids are going to drop Kumon soon
Also, we changed the Junior Kumon room to the waiting room and "Early Learners" (as they're now called) are out in the main room but off to the side

Idk if I'd be able to work with little kids because of the work they have, but idk, I'll have to give it a shot.

Didn't you once tell me you worked at the front desk there? I can't remember, but the employee that replace Stephanie when she's gone is either me (who hates talking to people i don't know, and doesn't know much so I cannot answer many questions, and is not trained to enter data) or Chris (who wants to do it, likes doing it, and is fully trained in data-entry)

witchofoz93 In reply to practicallyoblivious [2012-09-09 19:31:41 +0000 UTC]

Oh, Stephanie's leaving? Yeah, i worked at the front desk for probably 70% of the time I was there; for the last month or so I was in Junior Kumon, and there was time at the beginning when i was just a grader in general. But it's actually not that bad answering the phone and stuff. I was stuck there after I'd been working at Kumon for less than a month, so I really knew nothing, and it wasn't too hard to adjust. Maybe it's just me, and maybe I'm weird, but calling people you don't know is a lot easier when you're calling on behalf of someone/something else (like Kumon!). I did very little data entry, but I did have to monitor the candy jar and take kids to the bathroom.

Oof, how's the noise level with the little kids in the big room now?

And maybe working with the little kids isn't a great idea... I especially liked it because it was in its own room, so if I had a conversation with the kids that wasn't directly Kumon-related, or was helping them with their work in a non-Kumon-approved way, or just had to actually talk loudly I wasn't paranoid about Ms. Hsieh suddenly popping up and getting mad. (But the kids are still so adorable!!!! So it might still be worth it!)

Stephanie's not leaving, but whenever she can't be at work or has to leave early Chris or I have to do the front desk. Yeah the front desk isn't that bad, it's slightly annoying when I am supposed to be helping grading and I have to walk to the grading tables or when the graders don't/can't do a particular packet and I'm busy - and I haven't had to call anyone yet, only answer the phone and monitor the bathroom key, Kumon $, and candy

We've only had one real day with the little kids in the big room, and the noise wasn't bad except for the normal chaotic day noise (it was a horrible day cause Michael didn't come to work until late and we needed him)

Now that I've taken some time to step back and consider it, working with the little kids might not be as bad as I thought at first. Little kids are adorable and their work isn't bad enough that they'd need much help except to remind them to focus

Oh, and in addition to the adorable-ness, JK (or early learners... whatever) homework is suuuuuper easy to grade. Did they trae the letters? Did they count the oranges right? Check!

I forgot about Kumon dollars! Have you been there for any of the shopping parties?

practicallyoblivious In reply to witchofoz93 [2012-09-12 04:06:45 +0000 UTC]

Today I had to go into work to do some extra grading. Ms Hsieh said she still can't figure out where I'd fit best so I told her that she can put me anywhere to try. She said that she might just put me at the front desk and put Stephanie at the JK/Early Learners table(s)

They had a shopping party/awards ceremony at the end of the summer. The shopping party was cool, it was hard to count all of the 1's and 5's to see if the kids had enought (I was at the 2nd highest priced table) but it was cool seeing the kids spend the money they worked hard for!
