Description
Like a demented family portrait (of sorts), this deviation addresses a popular theme amongst fans: why are there so many 'M's in Death Note? And who does 'M' rightfully belong to?Considering he has any hair left after Mello's through with him, I'll vote Matsuda.

Oh! I just read you comment at the top of the page. I have that book so I know what you're talking about. I never thought of it that way!!

Yeah... I kinda sat in my room for a few days (coughweekcough) sitting like L and thinking about it, this is what I came up with;
M and N are always given to the most likely of L's successors, it says that much on the Wiki.
Their real names correspond to their new names, e.g. Nate River - Near, Mihael Keehl - Mello. Then we have Mail Jeevas - Matt. However, you cannot have two people with the same letter, definitely not in a database. This makes you think that O and P arrived before Matt, and O was more likely than P. (O was third in line, P was 4th) but then Matt came, and it would be stupid to change the letters every time someone came who was better than others. Therefore, Matt took the next letter on, Q. The letters that they are given do not have to correspond with their names, because you would have the 'M' problem in this deviation.
Now, here's the Beyond Rule;
Beyond Birthday's story...
isn't exactly cannon. Mello says that he met L, yet in How to read 13, it says none of The House's inhabitants met L.
I think that Ohba and Obata really need to announce what letter he is to close all these large loopholes. If he isn't Q, then who is Q? It just so happens that Q is a computer nerd from Whammys?

Actually... By my reasoning, the only people who deserve the title 'M' should be the Wammy kids. So that leaves Matt and Mello. I consider both to be 'M' but.... -shrugs-
