Description
Depiction of the Cynder the dragoness - F.Greytail - 1290 A.R. caThis piece is definitely something unique to look at, both at an artistic level, considering the style and details, and at a symbolic level, since this painting has probably some of the most powerful symbols ever seen in a non-official sacred art piece.
The main subject is, as it's clear, Cynder. Formerly known as the Terror of the Skies along and shortly after Malefor's domain, during the years and centuries became probably one of the most loved figures in the society of the new era.
She went incredible lengths to clear her name and, in her words, to be worthy of the second chance she was given.
Many in the beginning were skeptical, but as the years passed, and new generations came, the old grudges faded away completely.
Now over a millenium later, even after the death of her mate, she is still one of the most loved and respected leaders of the new world.
Without further ado, we proceed onto the symbolic analysis:
- The most visible one, which is the mass of light coming from above with three rays shining down the whole paining, is actually a composition of three other symbols:
- The mass of golden light is Spyro, clearing away the darkness from Cynder's life and soul.
- The three rays of light are the three clutches that they had during their lifetime. Their direct offspring amounts to 19 individuals.
- The purple light and sky, is a reference to both the purple dragon presence and the Aether element, which at the time of writing is only wielded by Cynder herself (she will probably be the last non-purple to ever wield it)
- Last, are the wisps of darkness from which she is emerging, symbolizing the change in her life thanks to the purple dragon's presence.
Notes:
This painting has a very curios story. The author, Fink Greytail, is a wolf painter coming from the norther tribes. He travelled on foot by himself, for over 2 years to reach the dragon capital in the south, with the painting rolled in a sack, protected only by a weak spell.
When he arrived in Warfang, he reached the temple and wandering around the halls stumbled upon Cynder herself, to which he managed to show the painting.
She admired it in wonder, while he explained to her his journey and te meaning of the picture. The dragoness was deeply moved by everything the painter said.
In the end she took the painting, paying Mr. Greytail with a precious gem for every day he spent during his journey.
