The year was 1993 — and it was the 30th Anniversary of both the Avengers and the X-Men. Two powerful Marvel superhero teams with a lot of connective tissue between them. So they decided to celebrate with a giant crossover event saga…with even more (slightly confusing) connective tissue. Hold onto your butts — this is AVENGERS/X-MEN: BLOODTIES!⁣

Officially, the United Nations has forbid any superheroes from entering the conflict in Genosha. But as groups of mutates are rebelling against the human-controlled government of Genosha (with human/mutate alliance groups in the middle), violence has overtaken the small country with a great loss of life already. And Professor X feels he is partly responsible. ⁣

He and he is X-Men stopped Magneto’s most recent outburst of violence, but the world saw Magneto’s call to action for mutants to rise up against humans all the same. And the rebel mutate population of Genosha answered the rallying cry as well. So Xavier discreetly orders his X-Men, led by longtime team leader, Scott Summers (better known as Cyclops), to follow his landing party to Genosha in the X-men’s stealth plane, the Blackbird. ⁣

So, yeah, being a secret team of heroes with no government ties really helped, because they just sort of GO. Unlike the Avengers….⁣
