Hey, Vectorinos, it’s time for a little trip to the Great White North. To be honest, Skippy the Undead Intern got really excited about Canada while researching Wolverine online, so now we gotta do THIS. So let’s dig into the predominant Canuck superhero team: ALPHA FLIGHT!
Calgary-born Heather MacNeil Hudson was married to James Hudson, Guardian of Alpha Flight. But she was no housewife. She helped put the team together. In fact, her deep government connections allowed James to make Alpha Flight a reality in the first place. He had the dreams, she had the know-how.
When James dies in battle, Heather is soon convinced to step up and lead Alpha Flight in his stead. Working as a non-combatant for a while, the team's adventures unfortunately spill over, and she is put in harm's way directly many times. Yeah, you don't wanna be a supporting character in a superhero book -- it's all kidnappings and damsel-in-distress nonsense.
Heather, being no damsel in need of rescue, trained with Wolverine (who she once helped helped transition from "forest dwelling savage" to "spandex wearing savage"), and adopted a version of James' old suit, now leading the team under the name Vindicator.
Heather led the team for years and kept things going thru all kinds of crazy comicbook nonsense. Then, as it turned out, James was still alive, just stuck in space as a cyborg now. Because comics.
Hey, a happy ending is still a happy ending, I guess.
