Description
There is very definitely a story behind this one, as it is a very personal piece that I have been meaning to do for a very long time. It's based on a dream I had a long long time ago when life was going quite badly for me. In this dream, the full moon outside made itself very small and drifted in to me through my bedroom window. I then took a wooden box out from beneath my bed.... a box where I stored my most precious things.... placed the moon inside the box, shut the lid, and put the box back underneath my bed. At the time, I believed it was a dream about putting away my dreams and forgetting about them as many people in my life were saying I should at the time.... so for a time I did just that.I forgot this dream for quite awhile afterward. I was reminded again when I met Seth and began to get to know him. His screen name at the time was "suffocate the moon". I told him about this dream, as his screen name reminded me, and later on when our friendship developed into more, I was going to make the dream into a painting for him entitled Suffocate The Moon. Of course, I never got around to this.... until today. Only difference is that now, instead of suffocating the moon, I think I'm setting it free. Thus the name change for this piece to Hope Chest, and its dedication to ~whiskeypriest .

When I first saw this I thought of the song "Dark Chest of Wonders" by Nightwish, but I couldn't really think of which part. After reading your story I still think of the song.
Great song, grest drawing.

Very pretty! You did an excellent job on the hands and the chest. This piece reminds me of Pandora's box and how she was only able to shut it in time to save hope.

Stunning work...I love your inspiration for this piece - the story about your dream is fascinating. I'm sure that PsychoAnalysts would have a field day with it, all the vivid imagery throughout the dream, and all the possible explanations for why you dreamt them. This piece is really beautiful, though. Fills me with hope that tomorrow will be a better day...and so will the next day, and the day after that...etc...it's a very happy hopeful piece! Great work.

I think it's awesome that you can remember them all so vividly. Do you keep a dream journal?

OK...Well I'm not on livejournal, so I'll just take your word for it that you've had some interesting dreams! Create more work based on them, ok? I'd love to see more.

The piece itself is beautiful, but it really touches you after reading the description. You did such a lovely work! And I'm glad you decided not to give up on your dreams. What are we without dreams anyway?

Not much for sure! I don't believe that anyone should be expected to give up on their dreams.

Thanks so much! Lately I've really been getting into what texturing can do for my pieces. My last several have been texturized to look like traditional work done on either canvas or sandstone. Best of both worlds! The smoothness of digital art with a traditional look that really helps tie everything together and add a nice finishing touch.

That's a lovely story. So you didn't forget about them (your dreams), only saved them for a better time. The Moon=intuition btw.
