Yeah there is a small flock of them at my local beach, probably heading south for the winter.

I have heard we get them for a brief time where I live to, but have never timed it right I guess, plus you literally have to climb out on the rocks of the jetty to see them, which is kind of dangerous.

Yeah, I have 50x zoom and these guys hang out at 51-100x zoom, plus a big river they pass, so by the time I cross to get nearer to them they already moved on other side.

You have some great shooting opportunities and a decent camera.

If you use automatic or theme settings, get away from them and learn manual control.

Also, your camera will shoot RAW. Do it.

This shot is severely under exposed. That doesn't happen so often with manual control but when it happens, it's an easy fix with RAW.

The problem with raw is file size, I take more pics then I could with raw.

Quantity or quality?  Which do you want?

Anyway, I guess that I shouldn't criticize your choices.

Good luck with your photography.

Well a bit of both, alot of my shots tend to be action shots, wher I will take 10 pictures in a row trying to get one that is really good.

I understand that. We all rattle off some action sequences. But if the camera settings aren't right ....................

What memory capacity do you have?

16 gigs, but raw is like 10+ megs each , alot of room, but I go through on a good day 2-3k pictures, add in hard drive space, I have 35k pictures, and that be over the limit with raw...not sure what I might do I've thought more about raw, but the size concerns me.

I really believe that you are shooting too much. Rapid fire never makes up for careful shooting.

If you shoot 3k frames in, say 10 hours, that's almost a picture every second (50/minute). There's no way you can make setting adjustments or compose or learn from your previous shots.

I shoot 25Mb to 35Mb for every frame and card space is never an issue. I do carry an extra card but I wouldn't need it more than once every year or so.

There really are very good reasons why virtually every top photographer (1) shoots RAW; (2) uses manual control; (3) tries to get each shot right, in-camera.

It depends, if I'm going for action shots, birds in flight or such I use sports rapid shot mode, if they are still I switch between M/tv/sports, sports allows me to get multiple shots during a action scene, like landing, diving, taking off, flying over water, and so on.  I can get 10 shots in a row allowing for most of the action.
