Description
A large Treebeard paper cutout I've been working on since last fall (I think I drew the original sketch back in September). The dimensions of the frame are 22 inches by 15 inches and about 8 inches deep.
I couldn't snap a very good picture because it has plexiglass across the front and was reflecting everything in my room. Hope you all enjoy it! Eventually I'm going to post some of the progress pictures on my blog, but as of right now I'm just happy to be done with this thing!
Edit (5/20): Just got on my computer after a hiatus of a couple of days. WOW! Lots of goings ons.
Thank you all for the DD! After the zillion hours of work I put into this thing it feels really good to know that people enjoy it so much. I apologize that I can't thank you all individually for the barrage of favorites too, but I don't have quite that much free time. Thank you all anyway though (if by some chance you happen to be reading this).

Thanks! It's really fun to figure out how to arrange all that 3D stuff too (at least in retrospect. At the time I was freaking out).

Haha yeah I know what you mean. In my last art class we had to take a painting and make it 3D. It was fun creating new aspects to the painting, like, adding my own touches here and there to make it more visually appealing (didn't go quite as planned 0.<), but getting it all finished within a time frame was nerve wracking.

That's the problem with doing art for a class. You never feel like you can REALLY get it finished the way you want it because of the time limits. It's really confining.

I was thinking you could do it not with card but with layers of fine plywood or veneer. It would be hard on the hands but if you made several you could sell them.

phew! - you work for hours (in fact for days if you consider everything that's needed) to have some seconds of film...
nice work you did...

Utterly fascinating, very crafty little creation. I like the addition of the woodland creature's eyes in the tree hollow to the right (an owl perhaps? Though knowing Middle-earth it could be anything!) A very nice depiction of Treebeard too!

WonderDookie In reply to DC-Tiki [2010-05-23 18:46:53 +0000 UTC]
haha. Yeah, I like to leave the eyes to the imagination. Originally I was going to draw a little spider leg or something coming out of the hallow, but decided it would be funner to leave it more vague.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DC-Tiki In reply to WonderDookie [2010-05-24 12:08:11 +0000 UTC]
Well a spider leg would make some sense I guess being that giant spiders seem to be a common hazard in Middle-Earth but I like the little eyes, makes me think of old cartoons for some reason. Speaking of eyes, and not that it matters because this artwork rocks ultimate anyways, but I believe Tolkien described Treebeard's eyes as being like amber or tree sap or something?! (Just so you know, I HEARD that on the LOTR DVD commentary, I haven't actually read those books since I was 14 so don't quote me on this one.)

Oooo. I missed that part in the description. I always think that blue eyes have more of that introspective/slightly absent minded look to them. That's why i went with that color.
