Description So it is not really a game but more like a test for future one
Controls
w - forward
a - strafe left
d - strafe right
Mouse click - shoot

It is a remake of my old Bezier fabric in AS 3.0 [link] inspired by GEOMETRY WARS remake for PC [link]
It may not be seen very good on the youtube but the whole backgrounds is made of a similar thing. Difference is that original game is made for video card which means 100X more control points which looks fantastic. Especially when black holes arrive

Edit 26.04.2007: Don't know how it is possible but after refresh blue liens have disappeared... If some oen will have alike bug then tell me. I will try to find out why that happened… May be osme bug in new flash… Or DA maintains or something…
Edit 27.05.2007: Decided to rename to Alpha becouse it is far from being finished... And i laso made grid size smaller. So it loosk a little bit more smooth. Though it is near it's limit now. May be i will make some optimisations latter...

weird controls, but cool beans. reminds me of geometry wars so much.

So are each of those lines movieclips manipulated by actionscript or are they actual pixels or whatever. cus i made a version of this too but i made a grid with a bunch of movie clips and its extremely slow.

No those are moveTo, lineTo methods. I have array of points(x,y,speedX,speedY). So i loop tough them and draw lines. Spent a lot of time optimizing this. It's too much for flash for now...

I liek the changing color of the lines idea and I would make the length that each blast lasts a little smaller. Other then that it's awesome.

Помню пытался научится пользоваться флэшем... у меня даже простые анимации толком не получались... Ты как? Самоучка или гдето тебе преподовали?

It is very easy to be honest. I jsut spent much time on the function that makes those lines fomre something like a ball Then i wanted to to make black holl effect that took me much more time... And i kainda failed

I started a geometry wars remake in flash once, i was doing it using displacementMapFilter, and I discovered a huge bug in the flash player. It ran differently in: browser on Windows, browser on Mac, Test Movie on Windows, Test Movie on Mac. Every scenario it ran differently so I could not finish it because for some people it wouldbe unplayable. Good work though, it would definitely look better with more control points for smoothness.

This is how I was thinking about making one. The grid in the real geometry wars looks more like a large image with a some sort of displacement map on it... I've never used the flash one so I don't know if it could accomplish the same thing, I'd love to see it though

psykopath In reply to Zaleucus [2007-06-08 08:31:03 +0000 UTC]

Im pretty sure Geometry Wars is drawn dynamically and not a big image with displacement map. If t is with a displacement map then it works alot different to the one in Flash.

Zaleucus In reply to psykopath [2007-06-10 17:56:50 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, if it is a displacement map it would have to be something different as the grid seems to fold over itself in extreme situations.

But one thing is for sure, the grid in geometry wars is made up of blue dots and not lines

psykopath In reply to Zaleucus [2007-06-13 04:12:45 +0000 UTC]

as the grid seems to fold over itself in extreme situations.
Yep, that was my reason for doubting it being a displacement map.

Zaleucus In reply to psykopath [2007-06-15 09:45:53 +0000 UTC]

I can imagine how a displacement map could do this, so I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to create one.

There are 40x30=1200 points already. I suppose it start to lag somwher behind 60x40=2400. I jsut left some space for enemys And such game as real GEometryWars is not posible....

On that same note, Do you plan on adding enemies into this game?
..Or do I glitchly not get them?

GAH! is awesome. Unlike you. Your more awesome. XD

I am planing on cheking one topic. About moving object indexing and space partitioning. Those sre ways to sort moving objects so that it is easyer to find collissions... I want to get myhands on few articles about that. And as a test i think i will add some enemys to this thing Tough i am not shore when that will happen. I am very bisy with finishing universety right now...

thelochness07 [2007-04-27 03:50:32 +0000 UTC]

amazing, truly. i have an idea to maybe make it even more visually catching: have the blue lines change from a very dark blue (just barely visible) to an intensely light blue depending on how much 'energy' they contain. so like as they get shoved around they heat up and turn white-ish and then as they return to normal they go back to the dark blue. again, amazing work.

I suppose that world aroudn us can be described in some 100 lines some 5 arrays fro basic types of particles. Some 10 functions for the rules that are applyied between them

Hmmm. . . well if you compress all the different ideas that condtradict themselves, and get rid of all the useless info i guess yeah the world can

DieAndBeholdMyWrath [2007-04-26 23:14:27 +0000 UTC]

Well I found a glitch that's hard to redo (Not impossible though) where the "GRJKHH!!" spikey lines will go crazy in place for ages!

It's spme really awesome programming though! Very impressive!

Another glitch.
When hitting the very top or far left sides of the area, the pod will bounce off. If done at high speed while backwards the pod will go off screen and game freezes and refresh needed.

And 1st refresh: All other comments but my first one get replaced by one comment box apparently made by noone, and the comment is "~"

After 2nd Refresh: All back to normal, but pod seem to turn around if touches wall again.

GAH!

Strange. I can't recreate your glith with off-screen... Tough i still do not see blue lines in browser... Very strange. I tryied it in another browser and in Mazilla it works fine But in MAxton there is no lines... As if drawing in flash CS3 depends on a browser

DieAndBeholdMyWrath In reply to wonderwhy-ER [2007-04-27 22:55:38 +0000 UTC]

Okay.
Shooting around 3 balls in all 4 compas points at the same-screen time time resulted in 3.70 FPS.
And yet that seemed to move fairly fast, there was a mass of Magnetic Energy Disturbance going crazy in the centre where I carefully placed the pod.

Though...I see now the tiny after-effect. Like water silently moving over the lines. Very small amounts of movent, trailing off in the same way as the large blasts, but not even at 5% the size.
So very small.

So very genius of you
Very genius indeed.
