Description
The next evening, E.v.e. got back from a rough day. She had been attacked multiple times while out patrolling, and each time only narrowly avoided being injured or worse. The Boneknappers and their hybrids only seemed to be getting more aggressive, which was not a good sign. She picked up the Screaming Death cervical vertebra and studied it closely. She then turned around. A Boneknapper was standing right in in front of her, eyeing the bone in her hands. E.v.e. whistled for Dreadknox and sprung onto her back, the two of them taking off with the Boneknapper in hot pursuit. E.v.e. now had plan- which relied on getting the Boneknappers away from the town using the vertebra as a lure.
E.v.e. and Dreadknox head straight for the nearest island, the Boneknapper still right on their tail. They swerved to avoid an incoming troop of vikings and dragons, and a Hideous Zippleback broke off from the group and started flying alongside them... upside down. Its riders, Ruffnut and Tuffnut Thorston, were arguing over which was cooler, the Graveknapper that they were flying alongside, or the Boneknapper that was chasing it. They quickly stopped arguing once they realized what E.v.e. was doing... and saw the island in front of them. The twins turned their Zippleback, Barf and Belch, right side up, and had them drop into an ambush near a Red Death Skull. E.v.e. and Dreadknox flew into the labarynthine cave system on that island, constantly jinking and swerving in an attempt to shake the Boneknapper off their tail. As if they had been dragon racing, the Boneknapper copied their movements and at times tried to pull ahead of them and cut them off. E.v.e and Dreadknox dodged the Boneknappers attempts to cut them off repeatedly, and even scared the Boneknapper into dodging them with a few well aimed fireballs and plasma cannon shots. They ran multiple laps around the island, the Boneknapper falling father and father behind with each one. Eventually, they managed to entirely lose the Boneknapper. E.v.e. and Dreadknox slowed to a halt in front of the Red Death Skeleton perched on top of the gully leading into the cave system.
They suddenly heard a massive set of wings beating above them, and looked up, freezing in horror when they saw what was coming right at them. This was followed by a thunderously loud roar that even a Screaming Death would struggle to match for sheer volume... and then, E.v.e. was pummeled off of Dreadknox, and tumbled into the abyss. She loosed a barrage of shots from her plasma cannon- a distress signal- just before losing consciousness. The last thing she saw was Dreadknox diving after her, screeching in fear.
