Description

The next morning, Wall.e tried to go back to work, sticking E.v.e. on the roof of her house to await the evening. Wall.e found herself unable to work however, instead making a single trash cube, and then sitting down and staring at it for what felt like an eternity. While she sat and stared, Wall.e thought of E.v.e., and about how the opportunity to at least make a friend if not find love had been squashed by E.v.e.'s directive. Wall.e then wondered if she might find a way to wake E.v.e. back up, or perhaps get the seedling out of her. She decided against the latter idea, reasoning that E.v.e. would probably have some form of defense against attempts to steal the plant. That left the former option- trying to wake E.v.e.- but how to accomplish that? Wall.e then noticed a pair of old alligator wires, and wondered if she might try to jumpstart E.v.e. the way one would a car battery.

Wall.e returned to her house around lunchtime with the alligator wires and a crowbar in the hand. She clambered up to E.v.e.'s position, and studied her chest armor carefully. She noticed an almost invisible seam in the upper left portion of E.v.e.'s chest armor, above the doors to her plant chamber. Wall.e carefully pried open the door with the crow bar, then pried open the corresponding seam on her own chest armor. This exposed their "heart cores"- electronic second hearts that performed three primary functions: pumping blood alongside the main heart, providing power to the cybernetic limbs (along with any other cybernetic body parts), and containing a small beacon which could be used to quickly locate a given cyborg synth. Wall.e hooked the black end of one wire and the red end of the other to her own heart core, then touched the opposite ends of the wires to each other to make sure that she'd hooked them up correctly. Sparks flew from the clips, indicating that Wall.e had hooked up the wires correctly. Wall.e then approached E.v.e., and prepared to hook the wires to E.v.e.'s "hear core"... the wires barely touched the core and Wall.e was sent flying backwards by the force of the electrical jolt. When she recovered from her crash landing, E.v.e. was still dormant. So much for that idea.

That afternoon, Wall.e was back at work and trying to come up with alternate ways of waking E.v.e., when she felt the ground shake. That was not a good sign. Wall.e began running back towards E.v.e., shouting "E.V.A.!" at the tops of her lungs. The ground continued to shake as Wall.e ran, and plumes of dust and smoke began to fill the air. Wall.e ran towards them, now realizing what was happening: the probe ship was landing nearby, and E.v.e. was in danger. She shouted again, "E.V.A.!" Wall.e burst through the fast moving shockwave of dust and smoke, and looking up, saw the probe ship on the dusty plane near her house! She yelled, "E.V.A.!" again, and screamed when she saw the probe ship doors open. Still running as fast as she could, Wall.e could only watch in horror as a robotic arm began to extend out of the probe ship and towards E.v.e. Then she hear panicked roars behind her. Hal and Whiptail were also running towards the probe ship as fast as their legs could carry them. Wall.e stopped them, and tried to shoo them away. Neither Hal nor Whiptail listened, instead trying to follow Wall.e to the probe ship. Wall.e stopped them again, this time commanding them to stay. Hal and Whiptail listened this time, sitting down on the roof of Wall.e's house. Wall.e herself then looked up, and gasped in fright when she spotted E.v.e. in the claw of the robotic arm, which was now being pulled back inside the probe ship. Wall.e once again set off running, hurtling down a makeshift ramp, and crossing the ground between it and the thruster in what felt like record time. Wall.e next flung herself up an access ladder on the outside of the engine, and began scrambling up towards E.v.e., managing to get up to the main body of the ship just as the doors clanged shut. Wall.e then launched herself at another access ladder, this one being on the main body of the ship, and scrambled up that, almost making it to the window before she felt the sudden tremor of the engines starting. Wall.e looked down just in time to see a fresh cloud of smoke building up, and, panicking, curled up into a ball as best she could, tightly gripped the closest rung with her fingers, and screamed. The probe ship took off as she did screamed, rapidly accelerating to escape velocity, and continuing to accelerate as it got higher and higher off the ground. Wall.e clung on for dear life as the ship blasted right through the atmosphere and plowed straight through a debris field of old satellites at top speed.
