Description

The "Brainwashed and Crazy" state that the Deathgrippers are in isn't the first time mind control is used on dragons in the movie franchise. In the first movie, the Red Death uses a homing signal and the threat of being eaten to exert iron fisted conrtol over its flock. In the second movie, the Bewilderbeast is shown to have the ability to use mind control on dragons in a similar manner to the Deathgrippers being mind controled with their own venom. The big difference with the latter is that the dragons only follow the orders of the Bewilderbeast, not any and all orders that are given to them. Also, hatchlings won't listen to a Bewilderbeast.

Fun fact: The Deathgrippers were always drawn with exposed tusks in their concept art, which suggests that the mobile shells hiding their wings were going to be the body parts that would let them change their own appearances. These shells are entirely absent in the final version of the dragon, which suggests that the retractable tusks and stinger were more or less last minute changes. Even the final hand drawn piece of concept art for the Deathgrippers has exposed tusks and mobile shells in front of their wings.
