Description THIS MAP AND MOST INFORMATION BELOW ARE NOW OUTDATED! NEW VERSION HERE .
At last! An updated map of the GDF!! (With Earth in the right place this time!)
Added even MORE planets, because MORE PLANETS!!

Dots are named according to their main member planet, not their star. (Exceptions are Sol and Kra'naak, because reasons.) Dots are colored according to the kind of star(s) in the system (some are binary). White open circles represent stellar phenomena and white open squares represent space stations/spaceborne artificial constructs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Things You Should Know:
Lyriat is the GDF capital planet.
Sol (Terra) = Our Sun (Earth)
Doomsday = supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy
Kinnad = Sirius system
Nk'fzzpd = Alpha Centauri system
Yuzza = Polaris system
New Harn = New Olanais (long story)
Space stations are numbered according to the order in which they were built. Rule excludes: New Harn, seeing as it's a mecha-planet and not a station; and Xoxx's Sphere, which is a Dyson Array-like power plant.
Here is the map with the galactic coordinate system: worldbuildersinc.deviantart.co…
UPDATE: Added Ska'ama (you'll find out what THAT is soon enough... ); changed some star colors to make them more realistic given what I want the planets to be like.
My main thought on seeing this is that the named planets, on the whole, are equidistant from each other... This presents intriguing conjectures about randomness and probability of life becoming high-tech. ...And also really, really far apart - have a look at the Traveller map online for scale.
Thanks for bringing this up. It had occurred to me before that the placement of sophont home systems was a little too regular, but your comment drove the point home. This map is undergoing yet another revision, so I'll make it a point to increase the randomness of home system placement.
Yep, most of the systems are pretty far from each other (making FTL essential). However, during the revisions I've been moving some systems around and grouping some together. For example: the Thyoran Nebula should be much closer to the 0 line, and Nk'fzzpd ought to be closer to the Sol system.
Thanks for commenting!
Nice.
It's interesting to see this map develop over the months.
Thanks again!
It is indeed. Of course, the changes never end... XD
Outpost 2 and Outreach 3 are both coincidentally very similar to the KRA base and Omega-SS I base in my galaxy map
Really? Convergent evolution strikes again!
The Outer Stations are only half military surveillance posts, though. They're mainly trading stations; points to exchange goods with deep space energy miners.
Makes sense Neither the Alliance government, nor Astros(Their military/exploration/scientific organization) have their own deep space starbases. The two I mentioned are used by the KRA(Kqo'rri-Resca Alliance - a small group of rebel Flurats in conjunction with the last remaining Kqo'rrians in our galaxy), and the Omega Daleks(Daleks who've come to our universe and reverse engineered Alliance tech just uploaded them the other day). Both of them use it as their only base of operation, but have great plans x)
why is Earth called Terra?
WorldBuildersInc In reply to ZackWriter23 [2016-05-27 19:57:04 +0000 UTC]
Earth is a generic and specific term at the same time. Earth is the English-specific term for both the planet itself and dirt. In technical astronomy terms, Terra is the official name of the Earth, just as Luna is the official name of our moon and Sol is the name of our sun.
This one is much clearer.
Thanks. Probably helps that I upped the res.
Many much-needed changes were made, and I'm happy with how this turned out. For now, at least.
