Description A sword. Dare I go one step further and name it.... Derflinger?

I'm not an anime junkie by any means. But if I see something interesting, I'll draw it This is just one of the rare occasions in which a realistic piece would coincide with something anime related.

Incorporated a lot of never before used techniques into this piece. Gradients w/ Curves+ (ok thats been done), noise+emboss, Alpha Masking and even Displacement masking.

Created entirely in Paint.NET

Is it just me or it looks like an item from a super smash bros? The artwork reminds me a little bit of Melee...

What kind of sword is Derf again?

An awesome sword that belonged to the familiar of god (in the series). The familiar was a Gandalfr (no references to Lord of the Ring), which means that he can control every weapon like he wants to. After the familiar of god died, Derf disapeared until another Gandalfr was born, and that's pretty much Derflinger's story. Why he's a sword? Because Saito (the main character of the series) first touched a sword after he became a Gandalfr. Any other questions?

Metal doesn't really have a texture though, it's generally pretty flat. You can add a reflection using a displacement map, maybe that would work.

A reflection using a displacement mask? Never thought of that. I'll try it. Thanks Blooper

That's actually the whole point of displacing. Reflections and shadows.

Add more textures to give it a realistic look.

At the moment it looks like a huge butter knife, it doesn't look very frightening or sharp

The grip is awesome though.

Hmm.. I tried putting in some noise+emboss in the black part of the sword, but I guess it doesn't come out that well in small view. But I guess you're right. Besides that, it does kinda lack texture :/

Thanks for the feedback
