Description Red fox (vulpes vulpes, liska obecna) from Pasíčka, station for animals, who are handicaped or who simply can not survive in the wild; Czech republic

NEWEST PHOTO -----> ADORABLE BABY WOLVES!

Story of the photo: this fox has only one eye. It was found in the forest. Expersts say that some myslivci probably used this fox to train their dogs, although it is illegal. One-eyed fox fortunately has a nice home and lovely care now... It lives in a big cage with two other saved red foxes, they have some grass and tree trunks there, comfortable looking boxes to hide and very tasty looking meat. When I saw them, fur of all three foxes was literally shining and foxes seemed very relaxed. I was very satisfied when I saw their living conditions. I bet they have nice lives now

EDIT: I am NOT the one who blame the myslivci! EXPERTS from the station say that. The fox has also NO teeth and there are probably more indications, that myslivci did this to the fox. But stop flaming me for just publishing the opinion of the experts also, people, who think they can surely know "how it really happened" are arrogant - it is so stupid that they think they know everything just through looking at the photo. Experts know this fox in person, they saved her and treat her - they simply DO KNOW BETTER. Deal with that.

EDIT NO.2: HONESTLY, PEOPLE - SPEAKING ABOUT SOMETHING YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MAKES YOU LOOK A BIT STUPID SITTING IN USA, CANADA, FINLAND OR AUSTRALIA, YOU CAN HARDLY KNOW, WHO MYSLIVCI ARE. SO BETTER NOT SPEAK ABOUT THEM. COMMENTING ABOUT SOMETHING YOU DO NOT KNOW IS A BIT EMBARRASING FOR YOU

about ,,IT WAS NOT INJURED BY DOGS, AS NO INJURIES ARE VISIBLE" - I saw a baby fox few days ago, who was brought by myslivci THEMSELVES, and they THEMSELVES said that their dog hunted and injured the fox kit. Fox was injured only few hours ago. And still I had to hold the baby in my arms to be able to touch and feel the injuries. They were all hidden under her SUMMER fur, so no photos show them. Fox in the picture is in her FLUFFY WINTER FUR. So your theory ,,myslivci's dogs did not do it, because no scars are visible" is very naive, as fluffy fur could hide EVERYTHIG.

So again, better not comment, because you know nothing about myslivci

*facepalm* but you just looked at the photo and you immediately know EVERYHING better, right?

do you think they are such idiots, that they would not be able to recognize old animal, who lost its teeth because of age? *facepalm*

lol never said I knew everything. I'm just considering OTHER factors other than hunters. To many people see an injured animal and automatically think "hunter".
I'm not throwing out the idea that it was a hunter. It could very well be!

I've known of some 'experts' that have mis-labled animal species in wildlife refuges and zoos and given false information, so no, I don't trust all of them.

no, I really think they are able to recognize the type of injury and I also think they considered other options unfortunately, Czech hunters literally hate foxes... and most Czechs hate those hunters. They have very bad reputation here, so I really believe they are able to hurt an animal like this unfortunately

Um, no. Just no. I'm pretty sure experts would consider other factors, darling. If its teeth just "fell out" that would be pretty fucking obvious. Jesus.

Can't always blame humans. That could have been done by another fox or a raccoon. Or even a disease because the skin around the eye isn't damaged like an animal fight would do.

I do NOT blame ANYBODY. Experts from the station do and I am sure they are skilled enough to recognize the type of injury. And racoon would not remove teeth of the fox.

eeeeem.... no. It is North-American animal. Animals, which can be found in Europe are very rare and those are only escaped animals, they do not belong to European nature.

Only native to North America. Some have escaped or been introduced into areas around Germany and other parts of the world, but they are sparse and unnatural populations.

The eye just looks like it got infected at some point in the past and the vision was lost afterwards, but speaking of using animals to bait dogs, I grew up in southern Appalachia so I was exposed to people using baby and mother raccoons to bait coon dogs into tracking. I remember seeing a really pretty meadow with two parallel lines of trees on the way to my friends house, I asked her what it was used for, and she told me about how the whole backwoods community around where she lived would come out to see this "show." They would bring their kids and teach them that this was fun and okay, it's the same thing with cockfighting, and it's disgusting.

I don't think that this fox was used for training, it has no other scars on it's body (From what I can tell) and the eye looks to be caused by a mutation or a disease. I'm fairly certain that this fox would have been fine in the wild if it was born with one eye, there are animals who lived full lives if the wild with much worse. Now if the missing of an eye got in the way of it's hunting then that is understandable.

But about the picture, it sends a message about how horrible animal cruelty is with the expression it happens to make with it's missing eye. And the fox is absolutely lovely. You are quite the photographer you.

that's not what I say, people from the station says it and I trust them - this fox also has no teeth, so hunters probably removed them to not let their dogs hurt during the training

I am glad fox is ok now and that you like the photo - thank you!

I read someone else's comment that they thought that it was a genetic missing eye and not an injury. From the looks of it she/he is right. There is no scarring, and as far as I can tell, around the eye looks just fine, its the eye itself thats missing. Its probably an eye degeneration, due to a mutated gene, tho it looks like it has been in fights due to the top of its left ear is missing. So who knows truly, but it is a good pix, and animal cruelty is WRONG!! The message of this picture is strong, and I love it (but am sad for the fox). BUT i must say that not all hunters are stupid (but yes some are), and poachers are the ones who are all stupid!

woxys In reply to loba06 [2011-06-02 06:02:53 +0000 UTC]

this fox also has no teeth hunters could remove them to prevent the dogs from injury... and then she got her eye hurt. I think the hunter theory is right, unfortunately

Lupen202 In reply to loba06 [2011-06-02 23:42:14 +0000 UTC]

Gum disease could explain the missing teeth too, you know. And you said it yourself - no scares. If a dog attacked the fox bad enough to claw its eye and rip off the tip of its ear, I'm sure it'd have some scarring on the muzzle and near that eye. The eye lid and such looks perfectly fine too - so I still think he was born that way, he had a disease, or some other cause. But I most definetly believe, that it was not from being used for dog training.

So, this fox is being confined to a cage because it's missing an eye? I hardly think that justifies removing it from the wild.

Also, this fox could very well have gotten into a fight with another animal, like a bird of prey or a big cat. Please don't blame hunters simply because you dislike them.

Quiddie-2000 In reply to Lalem [2011-06-02 06:29:14 +0000 UTC]

The poor thing has absolutely no means of hunting or self-defense. How is a completely toothless fox with only one eye supposed to sustain living in the wild, exactly?

Gorgeous. It sounds like a lovely place, really, and I'm glad they're happy there. It disgusts me that people could treat animals in such a way, though there is always the possibility that it was somehow injured in a manner without human intervention.

At least he's comfortable now <333
