Description Red fox (vulpes vulpes, liska obecna) from Pasíčka, station for animals, who are handicaped or who simply can not survive in the wild; Czech republic

NEWEST PHOTO -----> ADORABLE BABY WOLVES!

Story of the photo: this fox has only one eye. It was found in the forest. Expersts say that some myslivci probably used this fox to train their dogs, although it is illegal. One-eyed fox fortunately has a nice home and lovely care now... It lives in a big cage with two other saved red foxes, they have some grass and tree trunks there, comfortable looking boxes to hide and very tasty looking meat. When I saw them, fur of all three foxes was literally shining and foxes seemed very relaxed. I was very satisfied when I saw their living conditions. I bet they have nice lives now

EDIT: I am NOT the one who blame the myslivci! EXPERTS from the station say that. The fox has also NO teeth and there are probably more indications, that myslivci did this to the fox. But stop flaming me for just publishing the opinion of the experts also, people, who think they can surely know "how it really happened" are arrogant - it is so stupid that they think they know everything just through looking at the photo. Experts know this fox in person, they saved her and treat her - they simply DO KNOW BETTER. Deal with that.

EDIT NO.2: HONESTLY, PEOPLE - SPEAKING ABOUT SOMETHING YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MAKES YOU LOOK A BIT STUPID SITTING IN USA, CANADA, FINLAND OR AUSTRALIA, YOU CAN HARDLY KNOW, WHO MYSLIVCI ARE. SO BETTER NOT SPEAK ABOUT THEM. COMMENTING ABOUT SOMETHING YOU DO NOT KNOW IS A BIT EMBARRASING FOR YOU

about ,,IT WAS NOT INJURED BY DOGS, AS NO INJURIES ARE VISIBLE" - I saw a baby fox few days ago, who was brought by myslivci THEMSELVES, and they THEMSELVES said that their dog hunted and injured the fox kit. Fox was injured only few hours ago. And still I had to hold the baby in my arms to be able to touch and feel the injuries. They were all hidden under her SUMMER fur, so no photos show them. Fox in the picture is in her FLUFFY WINTER FUR. So your theory ,,myslivci's dogs did not do it, because no scars are visible" is very naive, as fluffy fur could hide EVERYTHIG.

So again, better not comment, because you know nothing about myslivci

Size: 100 cm long body + 45 cm long tail, 40 cm high weight: 12 kg

Interesting facts: red fox can hide its food to find it later | usually five cubs are born blind and helpless in the burrow | foxes have many colour variations: usually – ginger-red, but also black or silver, Unfortunately, red fox is kept by fur farms and some ----- torture them just to gain their fur. Red foxes are also hunted by so called ,,sportmen“ | red foxes suffer from rabies | red fox is considered to be vermit | red foxes produce pretty weird sounds XD | foxes in the wild live only some 4 years, but they can reach 12 years in captivity

Legend: foxes play important role in many myths and legend. Due their inteligence, they have become symbol of slyness and cunning. They are also very popular animals, who have role in many fairy tales. In the Czech republic, author Rudolf Tesnohlidek wrote very famous book about very clever hand-rised vixen called Bystrouska. I loved that book and also it funny happy end!

This is a very powerful theme that you have captured with this photograph. The "Why" question really fits this fox's expression. It's a sad story, but at least this fox has a nice place to live now.

It's disgusting how people use animals as training tools.
My old dog was going to be used for training- but not hunting training. He was pit bull bait; they were going to put him in a ring, just a 3 month old puppy, and encourage their fighting dogs to literally rip him apart. When the rescue agency came to get him, they caught his owner in the process of beating him with a broken beer bottle. If they had gotten there any later, he would've probably been put in the ring. He ended up living 15 years, a happy and loving dog until the day he passed away. I just don't understand it- how can you use any living thing as BAIT? I'm glad this fox was saved, but it's tragic that his life in the wild was taken away by the horrific selfishness of hunters.

Awww poor baby!!! Some people just do stupid cruel things because they get a kick out of it, they don't care who or what suffers. A very beautiful fox that is for sure! I am glad they are well taken care of. And I also agree with below. with nature being naturally cruel. And i admire organizations that do try to help and care for beautiful animals that would normally be hunted and killed.

I don't see scars, looks like a congenital defect.

I've trained dogs to hunt foxes before- you use a pelt, treats and a stick (Saves time, energy, and is reusable.)

Not that I'd expect you to actually know how to do the things you detest so violently...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

woxys In reply to NeuralNeutrality [2011-06-02 06:12:38 +0000 UTC]

yes, they are not allowed to use fox in contact with a dog, it is illegal, but they probably did it

this fox has no teeth, they could remove them to prevent their dogs from injury.

By the way, I do not know why you say that I detest hunting? Hunting makes me SAD, but I accept population control, because in some cases, it can be good thing for animals themselves. I simply think that it is better to be shot quickly than to die slowly on some illness...

No, the picture started a controversy, or rather, the description or the "experts", accusing hunters of something they have no real proof they did.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Lupen202 In reply to woxys [2011-06-02 23:35:26 +0000 UTC]

"this fox has no teeth, they could remove them to prevent their dogs from injury."... The fox might not have teeth due to a gum disease.

It just isn't right for anyone to accuse hunters of this, you nor "the experts" when there isn't any real proof. Innocent until proven guilty. He was found this way. No one actually saw him getting attacked by a hunter and his dogs, right? And as Neural said - no scars. If a dog did do that to his eye and ear, I'm pretty sure there'd be some scarring on his muzzle and around his eye, at least.

woxys In reply to Lupen202 [2011-06-03 00:12:13 +0000 UTC]

*facepalm* so nice you are so sure they MUST be wrong keep that opinion, it has no value for me, because you have never even seen this fox NO VALUE

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lupen202 In reply to woxys [2011-06-03 00:35:03 +0000 UTC]

Did I ever say they were definetly wrong? No. I just said that no one knew for sure that hunters hurt this fox, or there dogs did, anyways, because no one saw them actually attacking the fox. And the fact that there are no scars just makes it even more suspicious. No need to be immature and rude by saying that my opinion is worthless. I respect others opinions and I like to listen to them even if they go against my beliefs or my own opinion. And you're right, I haven't seen this fox personally, but your picture shows enough to see that there aren't many injuries aside from the eye, ear, and missing teeth. Scars are easy to see on the face of a fox, being as the fur is so short on the snout and such and fur doesn't grow on scar tissue.

I'm glad the fox has a good home; I understand that nature is cruel, and that not all animals can survive, but when a creature is impaired by a human, I hardly consider that sane or natural. I have a great respect and love for organizations who care for any wonderful creature in need.
