Description ...forgotten how much I enjoyed doing crowd scenes...

I've always loved the atmosphere just before an event... anyone who's stood around in the pits or in the marshaling area for a motorsport event knows what I'm talking about: the buzz of activity as people make last minute preparations on cars, try and calm nerves etc, brilliant. So after re-reading "The Edge of Reason" in EVO I had to do a pit scene.

So here's Team GTV6 (figured the '6 was probably more suited to endurance racing than Alfetta-chan's 4-pot) at the ADAC 24 hour Nurburgring... a massive course that takes in both the GP circuit and the Nordschleife, over 15 miles of track and 220 cars on the grid... so which of our four drivers wants to go barreling into turn one with that mob?

Seeing as I was drawing racing Alfas it was only appropriate that I threw KP in there as well with the famous (infamous?) Alfa-bike.

Been working on it on and off for the last week or so. Yes, I completely screwed the garages... unfortunately when I was drawing them I had left my reference picture at home... bugger, so I had to do them from memory.

Anyways, crit, comment and chocolate always appreciated.

Pretty much Though you could probably move the entire thing to the Mille Millaga and still be the dream of every Alfisti out there

Ugh, pimping old Alfas is just wrong... rust can be dealt with, has to be really. I mean: just about every Alfa of a certain age seems to acquire it My father used to have a 2.0L Gulietta actually, but had to sell for a 4x4 it after he left the exhaust on a building site one day by accident. Didn't have the ground clearance for the work he was doing at the time.

Good stuff mate, I like the use of the golden rule with this image
Also good stuff on making this image so alive with movement, it really looks like it is right out of the pits. Keep it up mate.

Ha, cheers mate. I tend to find doing details easier than colour... hence why there's lots of them

Yeah, colours... been there, done that, got the T-shirt and proceeded to spill tomato sauce and beer all down the front of it My attempts at anything other than monochrome can probably best be described as "dog's breakfast"... I'll keep trying, but yeah: anything decent in colour is a long way off yet

nice also BtRL is seriously hard, then again i probably just need to spend some more time on flight sims, should probably also set up the throttle on my joystick properly, toasters have such a small firing profile its an absolute biatch to hit them

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wraith11 In reply to smashleigh [2007-05-08 11:27:16 +0000 UTC]

Yes, that it is... definitely takes some getting used too. I've actually stopped bothering with the throttle during combat... just leave it at full and use the Glide Control and Afterburners Try and attack on an angle from above or below, hit glide control and give them a burst as you swing past at close range 'cause you're right... the side profile is somewhat... anorexic.

Heh, I actually did try amping up the contrast a bit more in photoshop... but some of the darker areas started to blend a bit too much together.

Well, that and it showed up all the mess where I hadn't rubbed out lines enough

Yes, yes it is...
...but she makes such a good Grid Girl Since I don't have my own "cute" character as it were to accomplish the task I have to borrow someone else's

Give us a yell if you want a hand with it. The trick is to get the two or three main characters into the foreground... then the background doesn't need quite so much effort

No, no at the time of writing... it all depends on the state of hungoverness attained for the day...

SoraNoMiki In reply to wraith11 [2007-05-08 15:05:09 +0000 UTC]

That is true, Tessa makes a good Grid Girl (though I don't really know what that is. )
Oh I just designed a "cute" character, after my best friend. It's a lot tougher to to make a cute girl than an agressive girl, at least to me.

I'll definitely give you a yell once I start on a background with characters. I decided not to do the kiss picture with a crowd watching because I really wanted the kiss to be the only aspect to really look at. (I don't know if that makes sense or not)

No at time of writing?? lol, hungover? lucky.. I only get to drink once a month.. if that.

wraith11 In reply to SoraNoMiki [2007-05-09 01:04:27 +0000 UTC]

Grid Girl, Race Queen, Distraction Chick... it's all the same thing really. Basically a girl employed to stand around and look pretty. You see them around sponsors' stands and team stands... or out on the start-grid using the umbrellas to shade the drivers of open cars.

Yeah, that picture definitely worked better without a background. Some do some don't... it's just a case of when to use what

Yeah, no at time of writing. We decided to investigate the Jazz club the night before. Wine hangovers fortunately respond go coffee better than beer or spirits hangovers

Stand around and look pretty... what a job. I guess that means you're on your feet a long time, but still, what easier job can a person get than that? Yup, Tessa makes an excellent Grid Girl in that case.

Oh a wine hangover, I don't remember the only 2 I've had. Not the major headache of a vodka hangover and not the dizziness of a tequila hangover, so I don't think it's as bad. Those are the only three things that I've drunk enough to get a hangover though.

wraith11 In reply to SoraNoMiki [2007-05-09 03:06:16 +0000 UTC]

Ohh yes, Tequila hangover trumps Wine hangover
Still I reckon wine still trumps spirits and beer... I think it's something to do with the chemical makeup of the drink. Then again, the only other wine hangover I've had was after "Goon-of-Fortune" night, and we just won't go there...

SoraNoMiki In reply to wraith11 [2007-05-09 13:27:39 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm, okay, what exactly is "spirits"? I thought that meant hard liquor or somthing but obviously I was wrong. Forgive my naivity, just seriously never heard the word in relation to drinks before.

Wine hangovers aren't so bad, but then again, I haven't been able to get as drunk on wine. And it just felt like a dream to me, like I really wasn't awake. Whew, too much wine can make a person seriously easy though. *groan*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wraith11 In reply to SoraNoMiki [2007-05-09 14:14:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, "hard liquor" is what I meant... just that Tequila has attained a very special level of suffering that it can dole out to its abusers that is above and beyond it's brethren

Here's how you get really drunk on wine: play Goon-of-Fortune. Hang a gallon bag from a cask of wine from one arm of a Hills Hoist [link] , stand in a circle around it and spin it around. Whoever the cask stops in front of has to take the longest draw they can... continue till the cask is empty or no-one is left standing. Add more casks for more people. Dangerous game.

SoraNoMiki In reply to wraith11 [2007-05-09 16:27:34 +0000 UTC]

oh, okay, so I wasn't totally off then. Yes, tequila is I think the worst of the hangovers I've ever experienced.. except once I had about 6 straight shots of vodka (I don't think vodka should ever be drunk that way though) and woke up with the most massive headache I've ever had. Thank goodness my friend was there waiting with aspirin and water. After the headache went away it wasn't so bad though.

Hahaha! That sounds like a dangerous game! I don't get drunk very often though; I am a very VERY dangerous drunk.
